Are brownies bad for cats?
I know you shouldn't give chocolate to a dog, but what about cats?

edit: asking because my little tortie is trying to sniff around my brownies that I'm eating.

1. It's not a good idea for cats, either.
I'm not a vet, nor do I play one on TV, so I can't give you official info...but I've heard many times that chocolate is not good for cats or dogs.

2. If a cat can't cook it...
...they probably shouldn't eat it.

3. chocolate CAN be bad
a piece of brownie or chocolate bar wont hurt a dog or cat.

Just do it in moderation

5. My cat eats chocolate ice cream, her favorite is strawberry tho.
It's not a matter of giving it to her, she demands it. She will jump right up and take it. I think she might be addicted to ice cream.

6. Carbs aren't good for cats, since they are carnivores while dogs are omnivores. And
the caffeine can be bad as well, although I doubt there's a ton of caffeine in the average brownie.

7. They do say that chocolate
Edited on Fri Jul-31-09 12:35 PM by hippywife
isn't good for either dogs or cats but our rarely get any. The dog took about a dime sized piece of my brownie last night and I used to have a cat that I would trade licks with on fudgesicles. No one's been the worse for it.

Glad you found some brownies you could have. Sorry I tempted you. :hi:

8. Yes. FYI, chocolate is also toxic to birds.

And since birds are a lot smaller, I'd be even more concerned about keeping chocolate away from them.

10. But would the chocolate be safe for the cat....
...if the bird ate it....and then the cat ate the bird?

9. Just don't put too much hash in them
The cat could have a bum trip.

11. Chocolate can kill a cat
It's known as theobromine poisoning. In other words, if your cat likes chocolate, you can literally kill her with kindness.

12. Get the cat an occasional treat that's good for him
such as a little raw salmon or tuna. A "LITTLE" not too much, and I think chopping it up first is a good idea. My cat is crazy for shrimp too and sometimes he gets some even if I don't buy them to eat myself.

My cat never shows any interest in what I'm eating, except a couple times he wanted a taste of tortilla chip, and he was interested when I was eating some avocado so I gave him some to lick off my finger but after he finished that he wouldn't take anymore.

Just plain sugar is bad for animals same as it is for people, too. severely lowering your immune system for hours after you eat it.
