Church plans legal action after S&M fetishists take over 13th century site for erotic photo shoot

They are not the sort of photos St Michael Penkivel's parishioners are used to seeing being taken on consecrated grounds.
So it's little wonder that church authorities have got hot under the collar over a photoshoot involving S&M fetishes and scantily-clad girls posing with holy relics.

St Michael Penkivel, which is nestled on the borders of Lord Falmouth's country seat of Tregothnan in Cornwall, is by all accounts a quintessentially English affair.


Built by the Normans and restored in the 19th Century, the church was the setting for Rowan Atkinson's serial-killer comedy Keeping Mum starring Dame Maggie Smith and Kristin Scott-Thomas.

But the diocese is embroiled in a much more real controversy after the S&M photographs emerged, sparking church bosses to take legal action against the photographer involved.
Unbeknown to parishioners, the S&M fetishists invaded its consecrated ground, sprawled naked over its altar, and posed with holy relics.

One of the priests put it pretty well when he asked whether it would be acceptable for a photographer and naked models to invade a mosque without permission and use it to stage nude S&M shots. Neither is acceptable.
