I need some computer help for my Mac.
I got an old G5 iMac, last of the PowerPCs. Ever since a recent power outage, I've been having problems with sleep mode. Either it goes to sleep, and I can't get it out of sleep mode, or whenever I try to put it to sleep from the menu, I keep getting the beach ball and it won't go to sleep.

Anybody have any advice for me? Apple tech suppot's no help as the warranty's long since expired, and I don't have the 50 bucks it would cost for them to set up a tech support line.

2. My first shot would be to run a permissions / repair scan
followed by a reboot. If that didn't do it, I'd run Onyx (free download) and see what's what. Let it fix whatever it finds. If that didn't do it, I'd re-install whatever version of OS X you're using, go online to get whatever updates to the OS there are out there, and reboot. If all that still didn't do it, I'd be stumped, and would pay the money for a techie, or throw in the towel and upgrade the whole system. But I'd probably nurse my existing system along until the next OS upgrade comes out and then buy new hardware.

3. Onyx won't work for me.
I'm running 10.4.9, not 10.5

5. I fixed it.
I did some digging, found a suggestion to reset the SMU, and it fixed the problem.
