The Mystery of the Disappearing Gin

Some years ago, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines used to give away to business and first class passengers small Delft china replicas of Dutch houses.
They were filled with a couple of ounces of Dutch gin. Corked and sealed with wax.

I've accumulated several.
A little while ago I decided to open one and see what the gin was like.
It...was...empty.
Dry as a bone?

My husband traveled that airline and got those gin houses too. He never opened them either and the same thing happened.

Wish I had an answer. I can only guess that they aren't sealed as well as they look.
