Gmail hacking...
Bad guys can bust your password:

http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2009/Jul/0254.html

The translation from the geek-speak is that another Gmail user can use a simple program to steal your password and read your mail.
OK, this isn't the most urgent problem for most people, but Google is slow off the mark fixing it, as usual.

The thing to so is use a strong password, something almost none of us do. Birthdays, pet names, keeping a password list in an unencrypted file on the computer, using the same password for everything... the kind of stuff all of us do is a no no.

Microsoft (yeah, those guys-- so sue me) has this neat password checker that will tell you how strong your password is:

1. It would help if Google had some kind of customer support for any of their issues.
Instead you have to go join a group where there are thousands of other people posting their problems so you just become one of the many "complainers" to them.

I'm all for Google doing great things with computers or a browser or gmail or whatever and take over Microsoft, but mark my words, unless they GREATLY improve their customer service the company will never be as dominate of a force as they wish they were in the computer/internet world. Customer Service should be the number one focus of every company and those that don't have good customer service fall by the wayside.

2. That's always a danger with a free product.
The provider is justified in best-effort troubleshooting, or the appearance of effort. I'm perfectly willing to pay for service, when my paying generates some sense of urgency and responsibility in the provider, with financial remedies for outages.

3. And they want us to use Chrome for secure sites? Their...
search engine and Gmail are the two largest spyware programs on the intertubes. I suspect they've always been slow to plug security holes because they use them themselves.

Wait till the hackers and security geeks get to play at the new Google OS.
