PRAISE GOD! I CAN SEE!!! I CAN SEE!!!
Well, not really. I just had a weird experience. I have bad eyesight and wear glasses. At first around age 21, I only needed glasses for distance, but not for reading. During my 20s and 30s my eyes got worse and worse, and I wore glasses all the time.

Lately I've had a lot of difficulty reading, especially in lower light. I randomly took off my glasses while reading and found that the text was perfectly clear without my glasses. I put them on again, and it was like trying to look at text through a jar of vasoline!

So suddenly in middle age, I can read text much more easily without glasses than with.

I remember my last eye exam (I'm embarrassed at how long ago) my doc said my eyesight was getting better and my prescription was being reduced -- something that sometimes happens with age.

Has this happened to anyone else?

1. It didn't happen to me, but it did happen to my old boss
he told me he used to have to need glasses but then his eyesight got better.

2. My vision improves with a lack of reading.
So, I use eyeglasses only for reading.

3. The trend toward nearsightedness can reverse with age.
My piss-poor vision actually improved a bit, on paper, when I reached middle age. I'm now growing more farsighted.

7. I think that must be true. I have always been nearsighted and needed
glasses for driving. But the glasses broke and I had to take the eye test to renew my drivers license. Amazing, I could read all the letters on the test. So I think I am becoming more farsighted in my old age.

4. My story is the same as yours. It means...
It means you need bi-focals.

5. presbyopia happens to everyone in their 40's
when you take your glasses off you are using your own myopia to your advantage

6. Yes. Hubby at age 67 reports that he needs less correction for
his distance vision than he used to have. He often takes his glasses off to look at very close objects--as in removing a tick!

8. I've always been nearsighted, have worn glasses since I was 6,
and my eye doctor told me last year that my eyes were getting better. I guess it's one of the few good things about getting old (LOL).

My problem has become moving back and forth from close to far. Sitting on the couch and knitting while trying to watch TV becomes a problem after a while. I have trouble seeing things close up, and it gets worse the longer I try.

Getting old is crap, isn't it?
