2. Guinness
And more Guinness! Galway Bay mussels are great, too. Eat early because most pubs stop serving food at 10pm. Check for late night fish & chips wagons or windows.

Where are you going in Eire? I visited the west of Ireland and loved Connemara. Rent a car and drive out there if you can.

5. Couple days in Dublin, and then...
we rent a car and drink to the Rock of Cashel/Cork. Then off to Killarney National Park and Kenmare. Then the Ring of Kerry and Dingle. Then a day exploring the Dingle peninsula. Then north to the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Doolin and Bunratty. Then home.

Busy busy!

But, of course, there'll be plenty of time for Guinness.

3. Maria's Schoolhouse
In West Cork. I hope it's still around, because it was the single best travel experience I've ever had. The couple who runs it is awesome, and they lead kayak expeditions during the day. It's a pain in the ass to get there, but I was able to hitchhike pretty easily from Kinsale - and the bus takes you pretty close.

4. Ring of Kerry is a beautiful experience
Stop in Kinsale and eat (great seafood), Cork City is a blast, and the Wicklow mountains outside of Dublin. And drink lots of Smithwicks.

6. You are the first person who has told me to drink something other than Guinness!
Of course, I'll make sure to knock back at least a couple Smithwicks and Murphys while I'm there. And we're definitely planning to hit the Ring of Kerry.

7. Go to Dick Mack's pub in Dingle
If you want the experience of being in an honest-to-God family owned local pub with tons of character. I loved it.

Have a great trip! I was there last year and it was one of my favorite trips of all time. The entire country is just stunningly gorgeous and the people are extremely amazing and friendly.

Try to get to the Aran Islands if you can - I went to Inis Mor, and between the native Gaelic speakers, the thousand miles of stone walls, and the 10th century Celtic fortress ruins, you can't do much better if you want a truly "Irish" experience.

8. I would LOVE to get to the Aran Islands, but I don't know if we'll have the time.
We'll be in Dingle a couple days though -- will definitely hit Dick Mack's! Thanks!

9. Gotta go to Trinity College in Dublin and see the Book of Kells
an illuminated latin bible from the 800s. It's a stunningly beautiful book. The College has a great museum on old manuscripts and the illuminations.

10. I was just there in May!
You'll love the Ring of Kerry and Dingle! If you have a chance while in Kilarney, go to Muckross House and do the tour and the gardens - absolutely beautiful!

I agree with drinking Smithwicks - delish and try the Pear Cider, too - for the life of me, I cannot remember the brand name.

About an hour or so outside of Dublin is the National Stud & Japanese Tea Gardens - I highly recommend the tour. We saw lots of 1/2 day old foals and lots of colts; a number of champion racehorses retire there to stud. The gardens are beautiful - worth the time of making your way all the way around.

I envy you - I so want to go back and live in Fossa...I loved Ireland and wish you just a wonderful trip!

12. Slea Head, the drive west of Dingle. Fantastic.

We enjoyed the Heritage Centers, too, much info in each.
In Dingle, we happened onto a free concert in a small old church. Watch for flyers. Not only was it delightful, but the singer and crowd dispersed to Dick Mack's for more.

Slainte!
