and our boy has crossed the bridge
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 09:01 PM by fizzgig
yossarian crossed over a bit after one this afternoon. a vet came to our house and we took him to our courtyard so he could be in the sun one last time. my dad, sister and i all held him while he left us and each of us spent some time just holding him and saying our last goodbyes. we buried him in a nice, shady corner of the back yard that he loved so well. my fiance came with me and sat with us the whole time, something for which i will never be able to thank him enough.

it's going to take some getting used not seeing him when i visit, but i know that he is no longer sick and was greeted well by his old friends.

i will always remember him as the sleek, solid mini jaguar who stalked through the tall grass in the summer. or as the gentle guy who groomed and cared for the omega cat of our pride. or the 15-pound monster boy who would squeak at you like a kitten and nip at your toes if you weren't paying attention to him.

he was our friend for so long and now that we're on the other side of this, i feel at peace because i know we did right by him. the hurt is still there, but it's lessened since this morning.

thank you for all your compassion and support over the last few days, i can't tell you how much it's helped me.

1. I really do understand, and I am sorry you had to lose him.
My grown son called me the night he had to make that decsion for our, then his, 15 year old cat.
And we cried together, long distance, cross country, with complete abandon.

2. fizzgig, it's rough I know. I'm sorry for your loss...
Our vet came to the house too when we had to say goodbye to our Rottie, Tarn. You have done the right thing with love and caring. Yossarian had a great loving home.

My condolences to you and laylah and all who loved Yossarian.

5. For Yossarian and his people:
Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

16. Beautiful, fizzgig. My tears are falling..
we've lost so many...it's me who get's to hold them as they go out. I just look in their eyes and say "I'll see you, again" as the light fades. It NEVER get's easier. Again, best wishes!!!!

19. As it should be.
They are family. And they must be made to feel like family. It's a tough deal, fizzgig. You'll never forget Yossarian. I've never forgotten any of ours. And, never will.
