This is Lisa's Life: You know how I've been unemployed ever since
it was necessary for me to get a job i.e. since I separated from the ex? Well, I've been offered a position. As an assistant. To a guy running for office. As a repug.

 What have I done to deserve this? Can you effing believe it? I couldn't get the front counter position at Tim Hortons but I get this job...

No. I'm NOT taking it.

1. I'd take it...
I'd even honestly work to get him elected. Then I'd use my insider position to play "good little intelligence operative." The easiest way to bring down any criminal enterprise is from the inside...also, I do know that the SOB piece-of-shit College Republicans and Young Republicans actively engage in this very sort of behavior.

4. I've been thinking about the degree to which I might be able to
steer him to the light. He's a typical repug (not a neocon by any means) as in: overly sure of his position, self-made man i.e. inherited his father's lucrative business and since done very well. not shockingly bright but confident and well aware of any point that might support his position...

In short, this would be his first venture into politics and I think he'd succeed. I also believe he respects my opinion (as much as possible) for reasons which I won't explain here) so maybe I could do good? Nah...

2. Take the job. There are worse jobs in the world.
Like being Rush Limbaugh's personal assistant. :puke:

5. Well, not exactly.
He's not a freaking moron: he's not a showman. But he is steadfast like they all are and it's doubtful whether I could influence him, though he comes to me all the time with his personal life.

10. Thank you for asking.
I guess I'm close to the same but less reliant on DU for support. I've been playing Farm Town on Facebook in lieu of human contact and you knw, it's worked out for me... heh.

Same old shit, DM, but I'm used to it. And you. How are you? And why aren't we friends on FB or anywhere else anymore? Don't tell me you got a life because that'd make me feel insecure.

14. On FB? What's your screen name?
I ask, because FB is the Center of my Universe.

New computer? What are you getting?

3. Take the job.
Even if you keep looking, it's easier to get a job when you have one. And you won't have to explain the giant hole in your resume anymore because you'll have recent work experience.

7. Reasonable response.
I'm thinking, Hell, it's Bangor, Maine. It's a great place to learn to drive and it's a great place to get your feet wet, politically.

Thanks, LeftyMom. Hope you and LeftyKid are well. What grade is he going into? My youngest just started fifth but my oldest went to college this year, sob!

11. Third, I think? Hard to say because we homeschool and his skills are all over the map.
I don't tend to think of his grade level except when we do our annual forms (which reminds me that I need to do all of that this month.) His vocabulary's insanely big, he's better with a computer than most adults, he can understands science concepts that most kids twice his age don't, he knows his multiplication tables and can explain the electoral college (thanks, Schoolhouse Rock!) but he's got terrible handwriting. He hand writes things very slowly, but he types fine and has no problems with spelling, so I guess we'll just keep working on fine motor skills. I wish he liked to draw, that would help a lot. I guess either it'll get better or we'll have to ship him off to med school when the time comes.

He's doing really well. Behaviorally he's done a lot of maturing, which pleases me. He's taking care of my mother's fish, because she had to move and can't take them with her. He says he's a fish rescuer, and that he's practicing to go save whales with Sea Shepherd when he gets bigger. I guess he got that one in his head because Mom and I watched Whale Wars on Animal Planet this season and he'd usually watch with us.

His half sister and his grandparents visited recently and he had a blast with them. She's a senior in high school this year, which makes me feel old even though she's not mine. While she was visiting I took her to San Francisco and we had our girly shopping day to go buy bath products and cosmetics and stuff like that I barely use, but she really likes. We went to Chinatown too, and she ate like a greedy pig. That made me really happy, because she's really underweight and I worry about her.

13. When you say third grade (you think) I recognize the profile.
He's doing the boy thing and excelling where a clever boy might, and lagging where all boys do. I have two older boys and they both followed the pattern. I think the vocabulary skills are a tremendous indicator of his future potential - they prove that he adeptly learns what is put in front of him and which is absolutely necessary to get on - so all you need do is inspire his belief that the rest of his education is a must and he will excel. Obviously, since he is your boy. Fortunately for him you are up to whatever intellectual challenge he faces.

15. He's frighteningly clever and his memory is amazing.
So far he says that when he grows up he's either going to sing in a punk band or race motorcycles, maybe both. He plays guitar a little. I should probably get him proper lessons, he's passed my ability to teach him sometime back. Maybe I'll just "misplace" a few guidebooks in his room and see what happens first.

18. Proper lessons.
I'm not sure what those are. IMHO you must indoctrinate him with those intellectual skills you possess in abundance: common sense, the ability to distinguish truth from fact, and the emotional confidence to live, feel and succeed.,.

You should find him a guitar teacher. My son has asked for piano lessons like his siblings and I've sort of ignored it. Your post reminds me that he is a new lad. Who knows? LeftyKid may be the next >>> I dunno what cuz I'm ignorant but I'd love to see him perform.

6. Hell, working in Texas

pretty much every boss I've had here was a republican. I guess I might just be lucky.
I have to say few of them were really good bosses and decent people. :hi:

8. Laughing.
Nice to see you, AllenVanAllen.

This is a very decent guy. I met him a few years ago when he was going through his divorce and he has always impressed me as a person who has strong values that he believes in, and he lives by them. I also think he might be vulnerable to... persuasion? I've known any number of decent conservatives though not neocons. My last boss fell into the latter category and though he had every other interesting attribute: intelligent, handsome, successful, thoughtful, emotional... yet he advised me to listen to Limbaugh "to learn a few things." Another perfectly good single man, useless!

I'll let you know, but in the meantime if you hear of a position for a useless middle-aged woman, please let me know. :)

17. Take it, great opportuinity to see their inner workings
and to get some of their money diverted to you by way of of your salary. I've played gigs for repubs; when the money was good enough (usually was), I always sent a little to the ACLU etc...I always figured it was OK to take money FROM republicans.

19. My dear crim son!
Aw, take the job!

It'll be interesting, and bring in a little money...

And as someone upthread said, it's easier to look for a new job while you're employed...

Go for it, sweetie!

21. I won't start a poll, but I bet a lot of us work for repugs.
And probably some working for repug office-holders.

It's a job.

Does the job involve teabags?
