Where is your favorite Sushi restaurant where you are?
Our favorite Japanese sushi restaurant folded last year (Sushi Heights/Nohana in Denver), and they had a great 22 year run in that Colfax & York location. Now we're hunting for the perfect sushi once again. Sushi Katsu in Aurora is pretty close. My wife LOVES albacore tuna tempura sushi rolls when done right, and salmon skin FRESH right off the fish then cooked with its own juices then properly minced with handroll of rice, radish roots, perfectly sliced cucumbers, and some great sauce on it. Forgot what is usually put on, that brown sauce. Mmmm. I am drooling just thinking about it.

I miss eating with 15% off happy hour a la carte from the sushi bar where we always ate from 5 to 6:30. Always the same order for the last 8 years my wife and I almost go biweekly.

1. I roll my own - minus the fish, mind you.
There are countless ways to combine vegetables to make kick-ass sushi. It isn't that hard to do it yourself and it is dirt cheap! Screw paying $7 for half a roll!!!

2. I do too ...
... but with the fish. We have a market nearby that sells sushi-grade fresh fish.
It also helps to have a rice cooker.

Then again, homemade is never quite as good as the really good Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood. They are the experts.

3. My wife says mine is better - and she means it.
I don't use a rice cooker. Standard old pot with a lid works fine - 20 minutes and it comes out perfect.

At any rate - it is WAY CHEAPER!!!! And, you can serve it with your beverage of choice (also cheaper).

8. Yeah, but you have to have the powdered wasabi in the tin.
It lasts forever and there is no substitute. The shit in a tube is like French's mustard - :puke:

It also helps to have a good source of fresh pickled ginger. I happen to have one ;}

5. I can almost throw a rock and hit mine
There's a pretty nice sushi/hibachi place within a couple of blocks of my home. There's another place near downtown Dallas that I like, but I try to stay away from downtown Dallas as much as possible.

Although I will occassionally get sushi at a restaurant, I really don't like to do so around here that much. There's something about living 1,000 miles away from the ocean and sushi that doesn't go well together. I do like making it myself at home where I can inspect, buy, and prepare my own.

9. Ichiban in Minneapolis
I enjoy it even more now that I have learned to grab my sushi without upsetting the little boats.

11. There's a local place called Yoko Yoko that is pretty kick ass.
Just opened last year in a former childhood hangout of mine. I like it a lot.

Another fav is a place in downtown San Diego called Sushi Deli. Cheap hole in the wall place, great saki bombs!
