Activities for kids in the Flushing, NY area?
Are there any children's museums or points of interest in the Flushing area of NYC? We might be going down this weekend (my wife sometimes goes there to get her hair done at a Chinese salon...) and wanted to see if there is anything nearby for kids? I'd prefer not to drive or take a train/subway into Manhattan as this is a day trip and we won't have time.

Thanks

1. M-E-T-S, Mets! Mets! Mets!...
But that's probably too expensive. I think just hangin' out might be nice.

3. Damn. I'm told the $20 tour of the new Yankee stadium is great. You get to go
into the dugout and everything. A friend of mine did it.

4. sounds great
but, if there is an afternoon game at the stadium on Saturday, that might be out... and, we'd have to get to the Bronx & back from Flushing.

Plus, she & my wife really know very little about baseball. My daughter just likes the Yankees because it runs in my family.

5. I don't know how close you are to Prospect Park, but...
one of the most fun things I've done in years is the big dog party there.

On Saturdays, I believe, the leash law isn't invoked until 9am, so the whole planet brings their dogs there and it's a hilarious, huge canine cocktail party. There are dogs that prefer to play with humans, dogs who seek out their dog pals to play with, etc. It's a riot to watch if you're an animal lover.

6. Um, can't help it, sorry.
1) Toilet brush shuffleboard
2) Plunger jousting
3) Tidy bowl paintball
4) Toilet papering all of the trees around the offices of the Republican politicians
5) And the obvious - shooting up toilet seats with an AK-47

7. SEREISLY! WTF? Why drive all the way down to New York, when there
are really good beauticians in CT? Again.. :wtf:

I used to get my haircut by a woman in Terryville. She was really hot, though that was 15 years ago.

9. It's a Chinese thing

she's gone to several good quality salons in this area, but never is satisfied with the cut. And, several years ago, I had my hair cut by a woman that could have worked on Baywatch... but, that was me.

And, we're not going down just for the haircut.

8. Go and visit the historic Parsons Blvd building

where my grandma, Annie Flynn, used to live.

Memories of her "mashed padaydas" and overcooked meat still linger in the hallway.

Other than that, I got nothing.

I grew up in Flushing. There's no there there. Well, maybe if you want to hang in a park, you could hit up Flushing Meadow.

15. I also grew up in Queens, and went to Flushing HS
The whole place is a pit. :-)

Just kidding. You need to check out the PS1 in Long island City, the Museum of the Moving Image, and the NY Hall of science, which is pretty cool:

17. That's what I was thinking
It's the old World's Fair grounds. I haven't been there in 25 years but I remember going to a science museum there as a kid. It talked about the benefits of nuclear energy --- really. I believe the spiel has changed since then.
