Post songs about water here
Shenandoah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZkKxMLkVX0

Oh, Shenandoah, I long to hear you,
Away, you rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to hear you
Away, I'm bound away, cross the wide Missouri.

Oh, Shenandoah, I love your daughter,
Away, you rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I love your daughter
Away, I'm bound away, cross the wide Missouri.

Oh, Shenandoah, I'm bound to leave you,
Away, you rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I'm bound to leave you
Away, I'm bound away, cross the wide Missouri.

Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, you rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
Away, I'm bound away, cross the wide Missouri.

2. The Rain Song ~ Led Zeppelin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4v-_p5dU34

It is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from
time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought YOU would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I seek the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall...It's just a little rain...

3. Black Rain ~ Ozzy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Jv-_JLXMs

Album:BLACK RAIN

Lyrics:

The Black Rain Is Falling
Contaminating The Ground
The Human Race Is Dying
The Dead Are Scattered Around
What Is The Price Of A Bullet?
Another Hole In The Head
A Flag Draped Over A Coffin
Another Soldier Is Dead

How Many Victims Have Fallen
How Many More Have To Die
People Dying In Masses
Angel Of Death Standing By

We've Got Our Marching Orders
Defenders Of Our Home And Our Pride
We've Crossed Too Many Borders
Military Suicide

War Killing Sons And Daughters
Another Failed Attack
There Is No Turning Back
Blood Running Down Like Water
You'll Think You Got Away
Until The Judgment Day Comes

Politicians Confuse Me
I Watch The Body Count Rise
Why Are The Children All Marching
Into The Desert To Die?
The Human Psyche Is Twisted
The Madness Rising Again
Another Empire Falling
I Watch Them Dying In Vain

We've Got Our Marching Orders
Defenders Of Our Home And Our Pride
We've Crossed Too Many Borders
Military Suicide

War Killing Sons And Daughters
Another Failed Attack
There Is No Turning Back
Blood Running Down Like Water
You'll Think You Got Away
Until The Judgment Day Comes

Are You Ready?

Black Rain, Black Rain
Black Rain, Black Rain

War Killing Sons And Daughters
Another Failed Attack
There Is No Turning Back
Blood Running Down Like Water
You'll Think You Got Away
Until The Judgment Day
You'll Think You Got Away
Until Your Judgment Day Comes

66. The Almighty Dollar ~ Ozzy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXH1P2AxVWY

It's In The Lives That We Lead
Setup For Money And Greed
A Little Isn't Enough We Have To Use It All Up
Success, Excess, The Truth Is Inconvenient

Oh Hang Your Head
Pillaged And Left Us For Dead
You Kept Us Blind And Mislead
How Could You Think Nothings Wrong
You Won't Be Smiling For Long
When It's All Gone, Gone
We Can Never Go Back

Burn Into The Air And Atmosphere
Watching The Rain Come Down
Turn Your Head Away Ignore The Fear
Watching The Ice Crash Down

Our Father's Justice Gets Closer
How Could You Screw Us All Over
Rape, Steal And Murder
God Bless The Almighty Dollar
The Almighty Dollar

Poison The Air That We Breathe
Chained To Industrial Need
Destroy The Souls That You Steal, The Radiation Is Real
Debate, Too Late, You've Built Our Funeral Pyre

You Kill My Faith
Mother Earth, Desecrate
Deceive The Whole Human Race
I Know You Think Nothings Wrong
We Won't Be Breathing For Long
When It's All Gone, Gone
We Can Never Go Back

Burn Into The Air And Atmosphere
Watching The Rain Come Down
Turn Your Head Away Ignore The Fear
Watching The Ice Crash Down

Our Father's Justice Gets Closer
How Could You Fuck Us All Over
Rape, Steal And Murder
God Bless The Almighty Dollar

Death, Doom And Disaster
The Point Of No Return
No Earthly Life Ever After
Is It Too Late To Learn?

Burn Into The Air And Atmosphere
Watching The Rain Come Down
Turn Your Head Away Ignore The Fear
Watching The Ice Crash Down

Our Father's Justice Gets Closer
How Could You Fuck Us All Over
Rape, Steal And Murder
God Bless The Almighty Dollar
The Almighty Dollar

14. Who'll Stop the Rain
Long as I remember the rain been comin down.
Clouds of mystry pourin confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin to find the sun;
And I wonder, still I wonder, wholl stop the rain.

I went down Virginia, seekin shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five Year Plans and New Deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, still I wonder wholl stop the rain.

Heard the singers playin, how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin, fallin on my ears.
And I wonder, still I wonder wholl stop the rain.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UI0XSPlTNWU

What are ya doin' tonight
Ya got no place to go
Gotta get out of the city
Why dont'cha come along with me

Mighty fine out tonight
Getcha girl and hold her tight
We can take it nice and easy
You know it won't be long till we'll be, we'll be

Down by the lazy river
Come as you please
Down by the lazy river
One big family
If you're all alone
You won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river
Everybody follow me

Better make up your mind
Let's get the show on the road
We're gonna have a party
Come along or you'll be sorry, sorry

You know there's plenty of room
Come on and sing a boom, boom, boom
We can get nice and cozy
Why don'tcha come along and mosey

And down
I said down
Come on down
I'm goin'

Down by the lazy river
Come as you please
Down by the lazy river
One big family
If you're all alone
You won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river
Everybody follow me

If you're all alone
You won't be long
Just bring your guitar and sing your song
Down by the lazy river
Down by the lazy river

18. Born On The Bayou ~ Creedence Clearwater Revival
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIjUY3pjN8E

Now, when I was just a little boy,
Standin to my daddys knee,
My poppa said, son, dont let the man get you
Do what he done to me.
cause hell get you,
cause hell get you now, now.

And I can remember the fourth of july,
Runnin through the backwood, bare.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin,
Chasin down a hoodoo there.
Chasin down a hoodoo there.

Chorus:
Born on the bayou;
Born on the bayou;
Born on the bayou.

Wish I was back on the bayou.
Rollin with some cajun queen.
Wishin I were a fast freight train,
Just a chooglin on down to new orleans.

Chorus

Do it, do it, do it, do it. oh, lord.
Oh get back boy.

I can remember the fourth of july,
Runnin through the backwood bare.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin,
Chasin down a hoodoo there.
Chasin down a hoodoo there.

Chorus

All right! do, do, do, do.
Mmmmmmm, oh.

19. Smoke On The Water ~ Deep Purple
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arpZ3fCwDEw

We all came out to montreux
On the lake geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didnt have much time
Frank zappa and the mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky claude was running in and out
Pulling kids out the ground
When it all was over
We had to find another place
But swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

We ended up at the grand hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the rolling truck stones thing just outside
Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We make a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this
I know well never forget
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

21. November Rain ~ Guns 'N Roses
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 07:51 PM by jus_the_facts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwu7ixmQk0c

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my
own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

.....I could go on and on...edited to add...WHOA Nov. 21 is my b-day....okay I'm outta here! :hi:

53. you're welcome--will post a couple more here in case you're interested
one is from the same album, Surf's Up...the title song, with impressionistic lyrics by Van Dyke Parks ... nothing to do with surfing etc...and a song from the same album as California Saga (above), called Trader, which if you listen to the words, is about the colonization, by force, of the Americas.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hYIlH4nOEo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4dxHyhRDlc

By the way,I love California Girls and all their surf and hot rod songs too, but by 1966,starting with Good Vibrations, they entered a phase of amazing experimental ( for its time) music, most of which didn't get very far (to put it mildly) on the charts. Brian Wilson was, to me, one of the great melodic and harmonic geniuses of the 20th century; he could think in 6 part harmony despite being deaf in one ear, and for instance, wrote Surfer Girl at the age of 19, in its entirety , intro, bridge, all the harmony parts etc, in his head during a half hour drive around his home town...:hi:

25. Cool Change -- Little River Band
If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters
There's lots of those friendly people
Showin me ways to go
And I never want to lose your inspiration
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life
is so pre-arranged
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Well I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales
they are my brothers
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Starin' at the full moon
like a lover
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life
is so prearranged
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Well I've never been romantic
And sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
But let me breathe the air
If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon like a lover
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time

had the others listened to Mike Love's insistance that they stick to the formula, alot of music would have not been made in that era.

37. Burn on, big river, burn on by Randy Newman
about the Cuyahoga River catching on fire in Cleveland and burning down some wooden bridges .... a pollution classic.

http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=1642

On June 22, 1969, an oil slick and debris in the Cuyahoga River caught fire in Cleveland, Ohio, drawing national attention to environmental problems in Ohio and elsewhere in the United States.

This Cuyahoga River fire lasted just thirty minutes, but it did approximately fifty thousand dollars in damage -- principally to some railroad bridges spanning the river. It is unclear what caused the fire, but most people believe sparks from a passing train ignited an oil slick in the Cuyahoga River. This was not the first time that the river had caught on fire. Fires occurred on the Cuyahoga River in 1868, 1883, 1887, 1912, 1922, 1936, 1941, 1948, and in 1952. The 1952 fire caused over 1.5 million dollars in damage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SKGIwsXuA0

Burn On
There's a red moon rising
On the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's a red moon rising
ON the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
< Randy Newman Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com >

Cleveland, city of light, city of magic
Cleveland, city of light, you're calling me
Cleveland, even now I can remember
'Cause the Cuyahoga River
Goes smokin' through my dreams

Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on
Now the Lord can make you tumble
And the Lord can make you turn
And the Lord can make you overflow
But the Lord can't make you burn

Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on

that there were other fires, and that they went back so far in history.

50. Waterfalls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-n-jZJhpT4

A lonely mother gazing out of her window
Staring at a son that she just can't touch
If at any time he's in a jam
She'll be by his side
But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain't helping
At all 'cause he can't seem to keep
His self out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money
The best way he knows how
Another body laying cold in the gutter
Listen to me

Don't go chasing waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and lakes that
You're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way
Or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast

Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can't see
She gives him loving that his body can't handle
But all he can say is baby it's good to me
One day he goes and takes a glimpse
In the mirror
But he doesn't recognize his own face
His health is fading and he doesn't know why
3 letters took him to his final resting place
Y'all don't hear me

I seen a rainbow yesterday
But too many storms have come and gone
Leavin' a trace of not one God-given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray all ten fade away
Seldom praise Him for the sunny days

And like His promise is true
Only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew
To bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies
Have dried the tears from my eyes
No more lonely cries
My only bleedin' hope
Is for the folk who can't cope
Wit such an endurin' pain
That it keeps 'em in the pourin' rain
Who's to blame
For tootin' caine in your own vein
What a shame
You shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane
And name this day in time
For fallin' prey to crime
I say the system got you victim to your own mind

Dreams are hopeless aspirations
In hopes of comin' true
Believe in yourself
The rest is up to me and you

51. Spring Rain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5CRiS8bRTw

Dressed in a white shirt with my hair combed straight
Here in my black shoes and me without a date
Me without hindsight, me without
When will change come, Just like Spring Rain
Falling down like sheets
(falling down like sheets)
Coming down like love
(coming down like love)
Falling at my feet
(falling just like)
Spring Rain
Standing on the lawn with cousins and child brides
Caught for the camera on their best sides
Being caught forewarned
their best sides
When will change come
Just like Spring Rain
(chorus)
Driving my first car
My elbows in the breeze
With all these people that I Never, never need
These people are excited by their cars
I want surprises just like Spring Rain
Falling just like sheets
(falling just like sheets)
Coming down so hard
(coming down so hard)
Falling at my feet
(falling just like)
Spring Rain
Coming down like love
(coming down like love)
Falling here so smooth
(falling here so smooth)
Falling in that groove
(falling just like)
Spring Rain
Falling down like love
(falling, falling)
Coming down so hard
(falling down)
You hear it fall falling down
Spring Rain
Falling just like love
(falling, falling)
Falling down so hard
(falling down)
You hear it fall falling down
Spring Rain

52. The who
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3mWiV3_-2E

The foreman over there hates the gang,
The poor people on the farms get it so rough,
Truck drivers drive like the devil,
The policemen they're acting so tough.
They need water,
Good water,
They need water,
And I'm sure there isn't one of us here
Who'd say no to somebody's daughter.
No, no, no, no, no.

The foreman over there hates the gang,
The poor people on the farms get it so rough,
Truck drivers drive like the devil,
The policemen they're acting so tough.
They need water,
Good water,
They need water,
And maybe somebody's daughter.

Indian Lake is burning,
The New York skyline is hazy,
The River Thames is turning dry,
The whole world is blazing.
We need water,
Wow yeah good water,
Ooh we need water,
And maybe somebody's daughter.

Ah gimme gimme good water,
Ah gimme gimme gimme good water,
Ah gimme good water,
Please don't refuse me, mister,
I seen your daughter at the oasis
And I'm beginning to blister.

My Chevrolet just made steam,
Your crop is laying foul,
My grass skirt's lost its green,
I'm alive but I don't know how.
I need water, good good water,
They need water,
Gimme gimme gimme good water,
Wow, gimme gimme gimme good water,
Gimme gimme gimme good water,
Come on gimme gimme gimme...

57. Brian Eno - Backwater
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YitVQuOBuLc&feature=related

Backwater
We're Sailing At the Edges of Time
Backwater
We're Drifting At the Waterline
Oh We're Floating in the Coastal Waters
You and Me and the Porter's Daughters
Ooh What to Do Not a Sausage to Do
And the Shorter of the Porter's Daughters
Dips Her Hand in the Deadly Waters
Ooh What to Do in a Tiny Canoe

Black Water
There Were Six of Us But Now We Are Five
We're All Talking
To Keep the Conversation Alive
There Was a Senator From Ecuador
Who Talked About a Meteor
That Crashed On a Hill in the South of Peru
And Was Found By a Conquistador
Who Took It to the Emperor
And He Passed It On to a Turkish Guru.

His Daughter
Was Slated For Becoming Divine
He Taught Her
He Taught Her How to Split and Define
But If You Study the Logistics
And Heuristics of the Mystics
You Will Find That Their Minds Rarely Move in a Line
So It's Much More Realistic
To Abandon Such Ballistics
And Resign to Be Trapped On a Leaf in a Vine.

58. Another Rainy Night-- Queensryche
Don't slam the door, on your way out
Don't leave without saying goodbye.
Another long distance night alone,
you leave me wanting, always leave me wanting more.
Last word today, coming home to stay?
Wouldn't that be nice, for a while?

But now my take-out food is growing cold,
and the candle's burned a hole in the floor.
And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone.

I'm all alone
It's just another rainy night, without you.
Guess I'll leave a light on for you.
It's just another rainy night, without you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3I1y3jHgxA

"Age Of Aquarius"

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius!
Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revalation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius!
Aquarius!

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius!
Aquarius!

62. Trapped Under Ice ~ Metallica
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsD-iC0eYJc

I don't know how to live trough this hell
Woken up, I'm still locked in this shell
Frozen soul, frozen down to the core
Break the ice, I can't take anymore
Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice
Crystallized, as I lay here and rest
Eyes of glass stare directly at death
From deep sleep I have broken away
No one knows, no one hears what I say
Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice
Scream from my soul
Fate, mystified
Hell, forever more
No release from my cryonic state
What is this? I've been stricken by fate
Wrapped up tight, cannot move, can't break free
Hand of doom has a tight grip on me

Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice

Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 10:35 PM by DeepBlueC
Cool Water

Written by Robert Nolan, first recorded in 1941 by Vaughn Williams and "The Sons of the Pioneers" and since then by many people including Hank Williams, Frankie Laine, Fleetwood Mac, Marty Robbins, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan (available only on a bootleg)and Leo Kottke.

All day I've faced a barren waste without the taste of water cool water
Old Dan and I with throats burt dry and souls that cry for water cool clear water
The nights are cool and I'm a fool each star's a pool of water cool water
And with the dawn I'll wake and yawn and carry on to water cool clear water

Keep a movin' Dan don't you listen to him Dan
He's a devil not a man and he spreads the burning sand with water
Dan can you see that big green tree where the water's running free
And it's waiting there for you and me water cool clear water

The shadows sway and seem to say tonight we pray for water cool water
And way up there he'll hear our prayer
And show us where there's water cool clear water

Keep a movin' Dan don't you listen to him Dan...
Cool clear water

83. Sand and Water - Beth Nielsen Chapman
All alone I didnt like the feeling
All alone I sat and cried
All alone I had to find some meaning
In the center of the pain I felt inside

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave

All alone I heal this heart of sorrow
All alone I raise this child
Flesh and bone, hes just
Bursting towards tomorrow
And his laughter fills my world and wears your smile

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water and a million years gone by
