I'm finally being allowed to go back to work..and now I have no money for work clothes.*headdesk* |
|
I mean really.
Short background: Husband finally got job he'd been waiting on since last September (out of work until June of this year); but they aren't giving him enough shifts, and paying him only $45 a shift instead of the promised $75. We can't find out why. So we're still scraping by and counting change. The other clubs in the area had banned me from working because they were afraid that husband and I would recruit employees to come to the competition. And I wasn't supposed to be working at husband's club because he signed a non-fraternization clause in his contract. So I was basically frozen out of any viable work in my area of 'expertise'; shall we say. Unless I wanted to drive two hours to Charlotte or one hour to Raleigh every day I worked (kind of a hard thing to do with his schedule and a five year old).
Well, the new GM at husband's club has known me for over 10 years and got a dispensation for me to work, provided I work opposite shifts as husband (fine with me; saves on babysitting). But now I need two outfits that cost over $150 (and have to be shipped to me). Spend money to make money, you know. Of course we don't have it right now,and I will be lucky if I can manage to scrape it together in time to get it ordered and here so I can go to work ASAP (I was planning on next Friday night).
I'm so frustrated I could scream..I finally get a chance to go and help provide for my family (in a good place where ppl know and like me and it's clean and drug-free); and now I can't see my way clear to get there. I'm *this* close. Arg.
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Please vibe that the extra will materialize/that I'll be able to squeeze it out of the rock that is Labor Day weekend.
...and on that note; I hope you all have a great one,if you bothered to read my rant.

As I was typing it, husband got home..and had a little extra than I expected him to have from the paycheck. So...maybe it's on the way?? Cross your fingers for us, and thanks!

This is one of those things were 'the clothes make the woman', as it were. I have one dress I can use at the moment, but it really is falling apart..it's just that I've got it pinned/patched so you can't really notice. But if I want to make an impression in this business that is all about impressions (and in this economy when you have to compete pretty hard for the attention of the small amt of customers we get); new, nice sturdy well-made outfits are what is needed. I'm only ordering two - one long dress; one short. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to outfits in this business. Because we are independent contractors; it will be tax deductible for me at the end of the year/quarter; however.
Trust me; I've done my research and also called up all of my old friends in the biz to see if they have anything I could borrow. No go so far. I also scoured the local Goodwill..you never know what you'll find there.
Thanks...

from Goodwill and other thrift shops when they work at the clubs, and they are very nice. Maybe you will find something.

11. Just what kind of clubs are these? |
|
There is some outfit that puts together women's clothing for job interviews. Don't know if they do it if you already have a job, though.

12. It's exactly the kind of club you think it is :) |

Yes, I'm a stripper. Been doing it on and off since '94. I like to call myself an exotic entertainer, however..the girls these days..eh. *shivers* So, it does change the dynamic a bit. It's hard for us to find good, good-looking well-made clothing that works for every lady's particular body type (or it doesn't, etc.)

I don't think the Dress for Success people or whatever they are called will have what you need!

However, you know...you've given me an idea.... There's a friend of mine who took over the only stripper sales school in existance (on this continent anyway!) and has really re-vamped the whole idea. It would be interesting to offer (as part of the instruction when she travels and teaches; it's usually a home-study course) a service like Dress For Success. Hmmmm. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
