I never thought that one Shiner Bock would get me buzzed.

That was a treacherous commute home.

1. Either you're like me and have a low tolerance to alcohol
or you had next to nothing in your stomach ;)

I've got six Shiner Commemorator beers in my fridge right now. I'll have one tomorrow and see what it's like, but I'll probably like it :)

Glad you made it home okay.

2. I think it was both.
Empty stomach and low tolerance.

I liked the taste. But then again I'm use to drinking Bud Light (aka toilet water).

3. I can't remember the last time I had a Bud Lite...
I usually get either Shiner or Real Ale. However, I've also been trying various New Zealand wines and haven't been disappointed so far :)

Shiner Boch is probably their biggest seller. They have a sampler pack if you want to try their other types. There's a "light" version, whereas Boch is heavier, being a darker brew.

9. I usually take whatever I can get since I'm underage.
It's hard to be picky when you can't buy it.

5. Alcohol is no fun , it gets you nowhere .
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 06:42 PM by UndertheOcean
There is no epiphany , deeper understanding , that comes with it . It has always been the most accessible though .

Don't get me wrong , other drugs are much better , but they still get you nowhere . That includes Philosophy , Science , and Religion ,ART, by the way , all serve the purpose of distracting you , nothing more . Distract you from dwelling too much on the fact that there is nothing to be found.

13. Well, I'm not sure...
My life isn't perfect. But it's definitely not bad.

Clinical depression runs in the family. I haven't been to the doctor yet and no one in my family knows about my issues. I guess I'm waiting until I completely break down.

Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 11:35 PM by UndertheOcean
waiting for the breakdown to happen is not helpful , there are some things within our "souls" that never return to their original state after breaking . If there is any advice I feel comfortable giving , it is this : I wish I had gone sooner . Now , modern Psychiatry is not by any means adequate , and their palette of tools is quite limited at the moment , but it DOES HELP , and there is no other option .

If you are a college student , you can use college facilities , which can be more accessible . Please don't self medicate , especially not with alcohol , been there , done that ... And don't listen to people who vilify SSRI's, they gave me a crutch to lean on when I needed it the most.

Much better for you to get on an SSRI, or get therapy at the very least, rather than drowning out you emotions with booze.

8. I black out by 10 shots worth of 100 proof.
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 11:16 PM by armyowalgreens
I rarely ever make it that far because I usually pass out by 8-9.

Then again, I tend to down all of my shots within a 30 minute period. And my body metabolizes alcohol faster than anybody on earth. So those two things combine to make for a fairly eventful evening.

The last time I got super fucked up I drank a 40 of OE, 1 sam adams, at least 4-5 shots of rum/whiskey. That was over maybe a 2 hour period.

My friends found me sprawled out in the front yard.

I've only really been drinking for about 12 months. But I've done plenty within that time period. :7

I don't think I'll ever build up a tolerance. Being a light weight runs in the family.

15. Don't do that -
I like you, and doing that kind of stuff can kill you, and I'd miss you.

So stop with the stupid suicidal drinking. Drink because you like the taste of it, not because you want to die.

You're too smart for this nonsense, my friend........................

20. I know it's bad. I'm not really sure why I do it...
Usually I'll start a night telling myself that I won't drink that much. Then I just keep drinking ( it really doesn't take that much).

I get to this state of drunkenness where I become extremely philosophical. People actually tell me afterwards that they really enjoyed my conversations. Most of the time, I stop at that point.

But sometimes, I keep drinking. And instead of being philosophical, I become really depressed. So I keep drinking to get past that point.

Then I get to a stage that I call being "comfortably numb". I'm on the verge of passing out, and all my emotions are completely shut down. I become completely apathetic about life. The only reason why I don't drink past this point is because I'm usually incapable of moving.

I got to that point about 4 weeks ago at a friends house party in Tucson. The last thing I remember thinking about, before I went into unconsciousness, was that I would be completely okay with dying at that very moment. I didn't feel sad or happy. I just felt completely free from reality.

Looking back, the entire experience scares the shit out of me. I know that, if I were capable, I would have drank myself to death. But, deep down. I want to do it again.

21. You just outlined the stages
every drunk goes through. Hell, I get high enough, I'll wax philosophical like I'm sitting in the town square, wearing a toga, with a laurel wreath in my hair.

You like to think you're "apathetic about life" when you drink a certain amount.

That's real fancy talk, and it's bullshit.

You're drunk, you're numb. You're hardly in any shape to be enthusiastic or apathetic. You're just wasted, and you can't move. Very attractive, by the way.

Those feelings are exactly what everyone experiences as they get drunker and drunker. Nothing deep or unique about them. It's just another asshole drinking to get drunk, and what a drag he is.

You just never experienced this before, so you think you're somehow unique, that what you're experiencing is special or deep or remarkable.

No, sorry. It's common as dirt, and just as interesting.

So, if you're looking to kill yourself, alcohol poisoning is one way to go. It's an overdose, just like sleeping pills, and yeah, the brain does go into that state - it happens with hypothermia, too - where you find yourself thinking that it would be all right to die. That's how the brain works when the body's systems start shutting down - which is what you're doing with booze.

Just make sure you're properly dressed for when your parents have to come and identify you at the morgue. You wouldn't want to look bad, would you?

If you don't die, you're gonna miss those brain cells that you're killing off permanently. We all, those of us of a certain age, have the friend who did too much dope or too much hooch in college and now he's the one who's not quite brain-damaged, but not quite right, and he never did get a grip in this life. The unfortunate one, he started this way, so have a nice trip.

I surely am gonna miss you, though. You have great potential.........................................
