I got a SPEEDING TICKET!
Arrrrrrrrrrgh. Well, to be fair I *was* speeding. And to anyone who has ever driven between Parker, AZ and "Quartzite" AZ, you pretty much can't NOT speed. So I was going 86 in a 65. On a two lane road in the middle of noplace. Saw what appeared to *maybe* be a black vehicle with some kind of lights thingie on top of the car coming my direction. Eased off the gas. Saw vehicle was indeed AHP. We passed each other. Checked my rearview. AHP slams no brakes, flips a bitch, cloud of dust. Coming up behind me. I drive 55 for a mile or so. Lights. Game over.

Very nice officer. "I stopped you for going 86 in a 65." DL, registration, poi please. 98 degrees. Sweating. Eternity.

He comes back with, I'm going to give you a break and say you were going 75 in a 65. That way it's not "criminal" speeding (is that the same thing as reckless driving?) Anyway, he was a cool dude and said traffic school is an option.

Still. Now I gotta be all *careful* n' shit. Before I had nothing on my record and tore it up wherever/whenever. Now I gotta THINK and LOOK AROUND...(this is the worst part)...DRIVE SLOWER! I hate that.

3. My dear Jack_Dawson...
Yeah, that much over the speed limit is definitely risking it...

I'm sorry...

And it's so much fun going that fast!

I try very hard to not go more than 5 to 7 mph over on roads like that...

How about using cruise control, if you have it?

5. Seriously?
Talk to me. I need more info. "Quartzsite, AZ" courthouse is roughly 250 miles from where I live.

7. Seriously
Get a lawyer and fight it. Chances are good that you'll win.

Lot's of times the cop never show up in court. If you show and the cop doesn't (Except for reckless driving charges) the charge is dropped.

My second ticket was a reckless charge, but by the good graces of my squeaky clean record and a good lawyer, that charge was dropped too.

When I picked up a new drivers insurer last year, my squeaky clean record came in handy.

Always fight those tickets, no matter what.

8. But...you're suggesting I drive 250 miles from my house
vs. do online traffic school? I think if I fight it and lose, traffic school option disappears. Not that I'm not taking your advice seriously, because I am. I just need answers.

Thx,

JD

10. the lawyer can handle it for you. You will not have to appear. Hire
a local lawyer. Problem solved. He can get reduced to a non-moving violation.

11. You, my good woman
are a genius. I might look into that. I did see a "got a traffic ticket?" billboard in Blythe. It might be along those lines. Unless you know a guy in AZ...

17. If you lose, appeal
Really, the money (and trouble) that you'll save in the long is worth it

Seriously. PM me if you'd rather. If you know something I don't, I'd like to know what you know.

6. I agree with bluezmann57.
It ain't such a bad thing. The last ticket I received was about 8 years ago. I was having trouble with my car in that every time I eased up on the accelerator it was trying to conk out and die. In the midst of this, I crossed from a 55 mi/hr area into a 35 mi/hr area in a small redneck OK town. The cop was an ass and wouldn't even discuss the car problems that caused this with me and the ticket was $175. The judge was nicer. She reduced the charge so it wouldn't be the cause of my insurance going up and gave me three months to pay the fine.

I decided there and then that the money was better in my pocket than theirs and haven't had another since. Plus you're just safer that way, ya know?

9. Busted!! I try to never go 5 over.
That will get you a ticket still from some cops. Not many though. Glad he didn't really put it to you.

12. No tickets any more in Oklahoma unless you fit the profile. Then watch out.
Sad, but true. Unfortunate in so many ways.

I keep a list of some favorites.

I would have tried "my tire is leaking air I think and I was hurrying to the next exit before it goes flat"

21. I passed a DPS car going 95 mph in a 55. The car didn't even bother.
Either you don't speed at all, or speed so ridiculously that the cop doesn't bother.
