Any Guitarists On Here?
If so, you might understand where my user name come from. If you play, what kind of music and what kind of gear are you using?

1. Not a guitarist myself (drummer), but appreciate the DU musician threads, so...
...since you asked, why not start with you?

What kind of music and what kind of gear are you using?

5. A Good Drummer Is Hard To Find!!
I'm into all types of music and play in two bands (our drummer just bailed on us in one project). We play a mixture of classic and new rock and try to keep it on the danceable side. I have quite a few guitars (mainly Charvels but have Teles, Les Pauls, Strats, etc) but my main axe is a mutt, I swapped a neck from one and slapped it on another body. I use VHT Sig-X amps through VHT 4x12 cabs. Killer amps and very versatile. How about you?

10. Here's what I'm using: First off...
...a vintage Camco (Oak Lawn badge, circa 1965) "Aristocrat" acoustic 3-piece drum kit, which was the drum kit used by Dewey Martin of Buffalo Springfield when he recorded with the band. (I purchased the drums from Dewey in 1978, when he was the drummer of a band I was also in, as a "vocalist," called Scott Thomas Lowe and Atascadero) The kit has been upgraded using state of the art DW hardware (which bases its drum hardware on the original Camco molds). I'm also using a limited edition hand signed DW Craviotto snare drum, and all Zildjian cymbals.

The electronic kit is a slightly enhanced Roland V-Tour.

I'm also using DW kick pedals (5000 double-kick on the Camcos, 9000 single on the Rolands), and occasionally using LP "matador" congas and miscellaneous percussion devices...

12. Simple
but sweet setup you have. How do you like the electronic kit? I played with a drummer who had a setup similar to that and had a hard time adjusting to it.

15. The electronic kit...
...is a different playing experience than the acoustic drums. The e-pads are very responsive, but obviously smaller than my acoustic drum heads, so there are differences there. Actually, the compactness of the Rolands is a plus, since I have limited space to work in. I like using the Rolands for recording, they sound more natural than I thought they would, especially when the appropriate effects are added and they're mixed in with the other instruments. Also, the variety of different sounds which may be selected makes almost anything possible, so experimenting with them is always an interesting and entertaining process.

I'm using both kits currently on a recording project called "Green Sparkle Frog," which I think should be released by sometime in November. The music we compose and play ranges from punk/hard rock to "quirky melodic pop-rock," for lack of a better description, depending on the project. The "frog" project is of the latter style.

You may hear some examples of our last record (more in the punk/hard rock vein), released a little more than a year ago, here.

Oh yeah, I also have a 4 piece DW Collector's Series kit, but I am letting my son use it. I actually prefer the Camcos since I've refurbished them.

2. A 1984 ESP Tele is my main guitar
I also have a Tele I put together myself and an Epiphone Sheraton II. I have a bunch of others too. The ESP is serial #000083 and it is the best guitar I have ever played. I have tried to replace it in the past but I keep going back to it.

3. Nice!
Nice axe and that shirt is killer as well! Reminds me of a table cloth from the 70's!! What kind of music are you playing and are you actively gigging?

8. Playing my own
It's basically rock. We don't gig too often, I don't like it anymore. You can hear it here:

9. I've got a no-name acoustic that I got as a graduation present in 2000
when I first learned to play in high school I just played on my mom's old 60/70something hippie guitar. :)

Finally got around to getting an electric last year, a Dean EVO. (side effect of growing up poor. Couldn't even afford a cheap used one until recently.) Nothing fancy. It was on a RIDICULOUS sale (normally 180, down to 80), and it had the best sound and sustain out of any of the guitars in the store that were under 250 bucks. And I prefer humbucker to single coil sound. Just personal preference. (Although I have liked a few that combined two single coil and one humbucker. Unfortunately, every time I found one I liked was when I was broke. :P)

I also have a cheap-ass no name starter bass, but I haven't done a whole lot with it.

As far as making the guitars audible, I have a cheap little Marhsall practice amp and a Boss ME-20 effects pedal. Basic wah, distortion, flange, reverb, etc. And for recording I got an M-Audio 10/10 LT soundcard so I can just record with my computer. I also have a cheap little MIDI keyboard and a Samson Q7 microphone. (both of which can also plug right into that soundcard) I'll have to get a better amp if I ever start/join a band. But that would require free time, which I don't have right now.

My webhost (*&%ed up a few months ago and forgot to renew my domain name and it got bought by squatters, so I dropped them like a bad habit and no longer have anything really available online at the moment. But I don't have any one particular style. I started out as a classically trained violinist, taught myself guitar, went from there. My style ranges pretty wide. Only sample I have online is a really short piece that I kinda shat out in a quick moment of inspiration a few weeks ago that I decided to use as an intro theme to a http://www.stickmanlimited.com/shows.html">video game review series I just started.

Also, I can't play with a regular pick. Well, I can, but I hate it. I either use my hands or a thumbpick. Probably a side effect of being a violinist first. I just don't like having to HOLD something while I'm playing.

As far as non-rock instruments go, I play violin and several renaissance instruments. I wish I could play cello, but I have short, stubby fingers.

11. Most of my gear is fairly cheap.
Two electrics and an acoustic (Squire Strat, Ibanez GAX, Hohner acoustic). A couple of amps, an effects pedal. It can't total more than $800 in value. I have a YouTube channel (listed in my profile) which I use to post cover videos. Most of what I play is metal, mostly thrash/death-y stuff.

13. Welcome!
I have a Telecaster made from Allparts parts. P90 at the neck.
Just got myself an Epi SG/Les Paul Custom 61 reissue for my 62nd birthday - whit3e, gold, 3 humbuckers.
Also have several basses and acoustics, several Peavey amps.
Started playing around age 12, might someday get it right.....but I love it, play some every day.
