Anyone feel like offering a little job advice? I found the job I'd *love* to have |
|
but the application goes through a big HR program online. No real contact with the boss, though I know who the boss is ... not personally, but through some research about the company I have found out who would be my direct supervisor.
Can I / should I / how might I approach this person about my application after I've filed it? I don't want to seem like a crazy stalker person, or eager/desperate, but I'd love love love this job - gets me back to what I should have pursued 10 years ago.
I'd like to be able to meet the guy. Or should I just go to the work venue (it's a public place, a gallery) and try to be casual about it? Or call? Or _______________ ?
Any thoughts?
It's late where I am - after 3 a.m., so I'll check back in the morning.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this a simple self-confidence/assertiveness question, or is it more along the lines of "can I do sexual favors"?
Sorry. Just asking.

and say "Hey, I'm really excited about the job. I was wondering if I could e-mail you a copy of my resume just so I know it hasn't gotten lost in HR." Or something to that effect.

Here is what I would do:
1) Submit online as requested. Make sure that you use key words about your skills that will be flagged by a computer that scans the resume.
2) Send a package to the boss...old school and snail mail. Cover letter and resume. Good paper. Personally address the cover letter to the boss. Be very concise, yet compelling and direct in your cover letter. Speak to the boss as you were speaking to him in person. Explain how you discovered his name while doing research about the company. Express your desire for the job, and tell the boss that you are using all avenues to increase your chances for an interview. Finally, explain how your skills and experience will benefit the company (actually, put this part closer to the beginning of the letter).
Best of luck.
