Hello?
I announced last night that I saved the house from burning down after a grease fire in the kitchen, and nobody seems to care. x(

1. Did you actually save the house or was this a metaphor for something else?
Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 12:53 PM by mix
I saw your other post, but it was strangely unclear, at least to me.

If you actually saved the house, lucky you...grease fires are scary as hell. Glad you still have a roof over your head and no-one was hurt or died!

11. My mom was baking a chicken
Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 02:28 PM by XemaSab
and she lifted the pan out of the oven. The grease from the pan spilled and caught fire.

My mom said in a really subdued voice "There's a fire."

I went into the kitchen and the whole inside of the oven was on fire.

Then she said "Call 911."

I grabbed the fire extinguisher, told her to call 911, stepped back, pulled the pin, and hit it.

There was a HUGE cloud of dust and smoke, so I had to wait a second for it to clear before I could see if the fire was out. It wasn't out, so I hit it again.

It took a few blasts, and the last gasp of the extinguisher put out the last gasp of the fire.

The firemen showed up about 10 minutes later, and they put a big fan at the front door to air out the house.

The house is now unspeakably filthy with extinguisher stuff, smoke dust, and stuff that was blown in from outside.

But I totally put the fire out! :woohoo:

17. I did that about six or seven years ago...
...and I'm STILL finding grunge from the extinguisher in the oddest places, occasionally. That fine powder gets EVERYWHERE.

Glad to hear you put it out. Burning the house down sucks.

yeah, if I were telling a story about how I saved the house, my kids would quickly turn it into a how mom almost burned the house down story.

Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 01:51 PM by Call Me Wesley
Of course, I started it. Was pretty impressive. Grill's toast, but I saved everything else, including the steaks. I think, in the end, I saved many lives! :woohoo:

14. Congratulations! Keeping the house in an un-burned-down condition is
more often than not a positive thing... :)

Now that you mention it, I think I'll go move at least one of the fire extinguishers to somewhere other than right next to the stove - who knows? On the basis of that inspiration, you may someday save my house too!

it sounds like you did something awesome.
had i been around, i think i would've had a lot of nice things to say about it.
i probably just would've run around shrieking ineffectively in the same situation...
