Dolly dear, sandman's near, you will soon be sleeping.

Anybody else remember this from John Thompson's TEACHING LITTLE FINGERS TO PLAY, a primer for piano students?

The words sound kind of sinister to me...

2. I remember it well.

I never thought of it as sinister, although it is played in the bass clef, in the key of A-minor, as I recall, so it does have a spooky tone to it.

4. Now I remember it!
That was my first piano book, back in 1960, I guess.

it's an earworm! lol

Remember "Papa Haydn's dead and gone, but his memory lingers on..."?

Edited to add the rest:

"When his heart was filled with bliss, he wrote merry tunes like this."

(I'm a bit like the Monk character at times, so I had to add the last part when I remembered it.)
