Poll question: How did you learn how to do what you do for a living? |
The choices seem vague to me but I can't figure out how else to word them. Plus, I am sure that there are lots of other ways to learn to do a job. Use "Other."

1. I was a computer geek in high school (Apple II, late 70's) |
I'm entirely self-taught. I did graduate college with honors and a double major, but not in computers.

2. Although it wasn't much of a training program... |
Although it wasn't much of a training program at the time, I had one for my initial job as a Typesetter. Since then, I've expanded it to an actual program with a step-by-step how-to manual I had fun fun writing over the course of a few weekends. Makes my post-typesetter job (i.e., typesetter boss job) a lot easier, and makes the job a heck of a lot easier for the new hires.

in college. I learned the theoretical background though. So it was on the job formal training...

7. I voted "other", but several of the choices apply. |
I learned a lot from my Grandfather - actually more like absorbed it as I was a kid. Learned some things from my parents, college, some other people, books, and probably the vast majority by fire - on the job and through mistakes.
