Poll question: man cave necessities
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 01:59 PM by Deep13
There has been some discussion about rooms or even out buildings that married men keep for themselves. So, for DU men and participating women (fem cave?) what is the most necessary part of a man cave?

feel free to infer an "other" category by adding an item.

16. computer & internet.
our man cave wouldn't be the man cave if there wasn't a computer in it. It would be the smoking room. But, with the internets, hubbie can spend many hours in the cave, as I do, since when I get home from work everyone is sleeping.

The other two. All it needs is some oversize wingback chairs in dark leather and some mahogany paneling, and it's an English gentleman's drawing room.

57. My perfect man cave:
1. Would be in a basement. (I'm an underground type of guy.)

2. 3 rooms (not counting bathroom- the mini man cave.)

3. Room 1 would be for my comic collection/shrine to comic books in general. Comic book art on the walls. Recliner for reading this week's new comics.

4. Room 2 would be my personal library. Different bookcases for sci-fi, horror and history/biographies. My collection of fantasy art on the walls. Individual shelves devoted to my favorite authors.

5. Room 3 would my den/workspace. Large wooden desk for writing and my computer equipment. Across from the desk would be a flat screen tv with DVD/VCR hookups. One wall would be my DVDs and videotapes. In the room would also be my mini-fridge, microwave and small food cabinet. Filled with my favorite snack foods: Cheez-its, diet Pepsi, extra sharp cheddar, Ritzs, chicken ramen, hot pockets, saltines, pickle spears and pepperoni slices. On one wall would be my gun vaults, vault with cash, documents and extra keys, etc.

6. Bathroom: Half-bath, simple white and tile. A toilet with a magazine rack next to it. Small sink with mirror. It would be small and cozy. Every man needs his own toilet for thinking his deep thoughts.

7. Except for the bathroom, wood paneling and deep, black shag carpet. No shoes allowed. Will need small cache of cleaning supplies in bathroom for spills.

Ahhhh, a man can dream, a man can dream.

58. Women
What can I say. In a man cave, thats what I would want most. My wife. Prolly cause she's more manly than me. I am the pacifist, she the punching expert. She the beer drinker, the craftsperson, the auto mechanic, the video gamer, and the TV watcher. I do cover the families Sci-fi/fantasy geekness, computer nerd, useless item collecting, and meat eating needs, though, so its not totally tilted.

Other than her, I would want several somewhere comfortable to sits, book shelves with automatic refilling from my wanted list qualities, temperature control, diversely controlled comprehensive lighting, some sort of quality audio/video set up, several computers with multiple large screens and several of these:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/usb-gadgets/bfa3/
and these:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/9836/
It could also use a decent supply of cheetos, Steak, Rice, green beans, Weinhards root beer, good cheese, and lightsabers.

Come to think of it, with a few notable exceptions, thats pretty much my apartment. Hmm. Life is pretty good, when I look at it that way.

Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 07:25 AM by One_Life_To_Give
I don't want to hear the outside world unless it's a punched out 454 with a high rev cam or equivalent.

On edit it could use a couple roll aways for tools. Fully plumbed with air for tools/sprayers.
Metalworking and woodworking equipment. Steam generator/woodstove for cold days and steam bent boards. Lifts both for vehicals and hulls/frames.
