Post your Prog Rock favorites...
I couldn't decide between Audience, Hawkwind or Curved Air...

I went with Curved Air...

For those who don't know what prog rock is, think music that you would most enjoy being stoned on the pot and alone in your bedroom listening to music with your first pair of really good earphones on while your parents were throwing a cocktail party in the other room blaring Jerry Vale remixes of Sinatra songs....

2. Gotta go with the master
Bobby Dylan in his "electric" period.
"Visions of Johanna"
"Temporary Like Achilles"
"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"
mm-mmm!

For the alone-with-headphones setting, some standouts:
Moody Blues
Procol Harum
The Doors
...and of course, the Beatles ca. Revolver/Sgt. Pepper

12. Marillion's "Lavender"...with Fish
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7sIzWKHGwQ

The guitar solo on this one slays me every fucking time. I prefer the original lineup of the band, fronted by Fish, but it's like Genesis with Peter Gabriel...he left and they just became a different band. Not better, not worse, different.

I'm a long-time and big-time prog fan...all of the original Yes / Genesis / Crimson stuff as well as the second wave of Marillion, Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, Jadis, etc. etc. etc...

15. I saw them on the "Going For The One" tour, with Wakeman...
...and Donovan was their opening act. There are fans of the "Relayer" album (and Moraz lit up Chris Squire's "Fish Out Of Water" solo album like a Roman candle, along with Bill Bruford), but it was good to have Wakeman back.

18. Tull.
Early blues-rock Tull, mid-period medieval boogie, Crest of a Knave metal, or modern world music. Tull's mostly awesome.
