Ever read a "Yelp" restaurant review? If you read one, you've read them all/ |

It was yummy!
It was pricey
They kept the water glasses full!
The appetizers were to die for, yummy and hot!
This joint really knows their dirty martinis! They are to die for!
That said, it's yummy but pricey!

1. You're so right you don't even know it...yet. |

I saw your subject line and before I EVEN CLICKED ON YOUR THREAD I visualized the requisite photo of some Asian nymphette with the opening line
"My BF and I went for sushi and it was YUM..."
I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Silicon Valley, when I go to the individual city pages, THERE SHE IS...the Asian "club type" OMFG cell phone texting Twitter girl, and no matter what she ate, she ate it with her "BF," and they both thought it was "YUMMY."
Yelp pretty much sucks like a banshee in that regard.

2. For some reason I actually took it seriously for a while. |

Later, I realized it was all bullshit.

3. It's a lot of things...blatant hype, character assasination... |

I used to belong to a local business networking group that had a Yahoo discussion group as part of the membership. I finally got sick of what ended up being hundreds of "pissing and moaning" emails sent to the entire group anout Yelp's fake and malicious reviews. Someone works in a restaurant, so they write a review along the lines of "the carpet smelled heavily of urine" (someone actually wrote that about one of my former clients and he went BALLISTIC).
I have written some legitimate reviews on Yelp, for many of the same reasons that I post here...doing so keeps my "writing muscles" toned. But would I read a Yelp review to help me decide on a product or service?
No frikkin' WAY.

4. I guess you didn't read my review of a Pho' place in Federal Way, WA. |

We had shamefully, terrible service twice in a row after our first good experience at this restaurant (which explains why we kept trying).
I signed up for Yelp just so I could comment on this particular restaurant. And I lashed out! They fully deserved it.
