Anybody else here a Rugby fan??
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 09:42 PM by rurallib
We have been getting SETANA on Dish for the past couple weeks. They carry soccer, rugby and a couple other sports we mock.
I used to play rugby in college and really enjoyed it. Sort of an organized version of Kill the Man with The Ball.
Little or no stops and a quick pace makes it much more fun to watch than Americanized football for me.

Now with a picture

2. I got roped into a few games
I was a soccer player but had a mate who played rugby. If his team were a man short, he'd invite me to play. Strong points: I could give and take a hit, fairly mobile, ferocious tackler. Weak points: complete lack of technical knowledge of the game - I had to be continually told what to do by my teammates, particularly in the early games (and I only played six times, or so). Since I was an illegal, I always played under somebody else's name.

Since my "retirement", I've come to love both League and Union and wish I had played one or the other as my main sport.

6. most college campuses will have a rugby club
If you mean to watch it, somehow I got a station called SETANTA on dish TV. Channel 406. Rugby has generally been on Thursday all day with scattered replays the rest of the week.

5. I played a custom version of Rugby in Junior High PE
I'm not familiar with Rugby rules but I believe they don't have a forward pass. In PE we played with flags to reference a tackle and a lateral was the only option after a player was downed. After the ball is in play you can throw it forward. It was 7th and 8th grade, I was in Flagstaff for 6 months in the 9th grade but it was fun.

A person that was in the same PE class as me in 7th and 8th grade is now the starting Running Back for UNLV.
