4AM Phone Call.
Nothing freezes the blood anymore than the phone ringing at such an hour. It's the call you've got to answer, even if you don't know the number. The worst thoughts pass through your mind in the few seconds between the ring and hearing the voice on the other end.

Me: "Hello?"

Voice on the Other End: "abbub attah ba dah?"

Me: "I'm sorry? What?"

VotOE: :"Ahh Bebbado."

Me: "Excuse me. Who is this?"

VotOE: "I'm sorry. I guess I have the wrong number"

Ya Think???? :grr:
Thanks for scaring the shit out of me and waking me up at 4AM on a SATURDAY.
ASSHOLE!

9. snicker
Actually, my son has given me a "wake-up" call at some pretty weird hours, and he's probably close to your age. He usually just wants to chat and forgets what time it is I guess.

I actually don't mind that sort of thing. Or if a friend wants to chat at an odd hour. I have a friend who's Bipolar and she calls at odd times sometimes too. That's OK. That's why you have friends, to put up with each others annoying shit. And love each other anyway.

But wrong numbers at that hour really put a kink in my chain. I don't know why. It's not like the person intended to disturb my sleep.

11. I'm really sorry. I've gotten THAT call
My Dad died in 2001. He already knew * was going to be bad for the country. He died in the spring of 2001. In a way, I'm glad that he didn't live to see 9/11 of that year and the destruction of liberty that followed.

It would have broken his heart.

27. omg.
I am so incredibly, profoundly sorry. I wish there were something I could say or do to make it better for you, but since that's impossible I will just say you are an incredible person and I admire you greatly. You were (ARE) invaluable to your father, mother, and the rest of your family over the last couple of years even when having an overflowing plate of your own to deal with. I don't know how you do it, but I'm certain your father is smiling down on you now, bursting with love, and proud of the woman you've become.

7. I used to get regular middle of the night strange phone calls

Most of the calls went something like this:

phone rings at 3:00 a.m.
Me: (groggily) Hello?
Caller: Can you tell me your prices?
Me: Prices for WHAT?
click

phone rings two months later at 4:15 a.m.
Me: (grumpily) Hello?
Caller: Can you tell me about your girls?
Me: What the hell? WHAT?
Caller: Your GIRLS.
Me: I don't know what you are talking about
click

This went on for months (actually almost two years), with enough time between each call to still be alarmed when my phone rang in the middle of the night. Finally a call came through that explained it all.

phone rings at some ungodly hour
Me: (I was actually up this time, I dont know why) Hello?
Caller: Yes, what kind of girls do you have?
Me: (silence)
Caller: Hello?
Me: I didn't understand what you said.
Caller: Is this uh..the escort service
Me: No, this isnt the escort service, what number did you call?
Caller: Uh, 555-5555
Me: Oh, well, this is 555-5556
Caller: Oh, sorry, I guess I got that last number wrong
Me: This explains the crazy calls I have been getting for the last two years
Caller: Sorry
Me: Well, its okay. I guess you should hang up and redial.
Caller: Okay, thanks. Are you busy tonight?
Me: Sorry I am not available.
Caller: Okay, thanks. Bye.
Click

Sure enough I looked around for escort service ads in my area the next day and my number turned out to be one number off from an escort service. I got those calls until I moved and got a new phone number.

12. I had a Ph # that was one digit off the Phone Company one time
I was getting 20 calls a day plus. That was really inconvenient, especially given the fact that I was a brand new Mom.

I called the Phone Company. Sure they'd change my number. For a fee. It was $50 or some ridiculous thing at the time 20 odd years ago. Whatever, it was. We certainly didn't have that kind of money to just toss away.

So. For awhile we put up with it.

Then finally, I found out the phone # to the local Phone Company Grand Poobah. (And I tell ya, Pre-Internet days that took some research) But, anyway, I directed all these callers with their various issues (disconnected line - service interruption - whatever) to his personal phone and gave them a "service order." Which was actually my phone number.

Within a week after I started doing that I got a call from said nameless Phone Company offering to change my number free of charge.

Win.

17. I had toyed around with the idea of having fun with my
wrong number callers. Taking their info and promising them a voluptuous blond named X-tacy would be right over. But, dang, these calls always came while I was sound asleep.

18. Yeah. Those wrong #'s were pretty much during the day.
Got to where we pretty much didn't answer our phone before 5PM unless we wanted to mess with someone. Most people who had a reason to call us knew this was going on and were told to call; let it Ring once and then call right back.

19. Lol. My sister had a number almost exactly the same
as the local Ziebart company years ago. In autumn, she'd start getting calls.

She went round and round with the phone company too and finally just starting setting up appointments for the people who called.

The company changed their number pretty quickly after that.

23. Lol! I had a friend whose number was close to the local major pizza place. You
can imagine the number of wrong calls. He started taking orders, and promising delivery. I believe the pizza place gave up and changed ITS number...

21. I paged a drug dealer by accident once
The phone call I got from him was really scary; I had no idea at first what he was talking about which made him think he was being set up. Yikes.

25. I now only have a cell phone, and the only people with the number
are three relatives an my best friend, so the number of wrong calls I get a year is only two or three. However, if any of those occur at O'dark-thirty, I return the favor. I wake up a few times a night, so I can call someone at pretty much any time of day. If you are going to make phone calls at insane hours, you better make DAMN sure it is the right number...

29. I started getting an insane # of calls when I signed up with Monster.com while job searching
So apparently, they sell your info big time. For a couple of weeks I was getting calls all the time with some heavily accented person from the other side of the world trying to get me to sign up for on line courses etc...

And it was always a number from "Unavailable." That or the number was 3 or 4 digits long.

I was still working at the time, but the place was due to shut down within a few weeks and these phone calls quickly got annoying.

I worked a late shift until 1AM and usually didn't wind down and get ready to sleep until 4AM, so when my cell rang at 7AM one morning and the message said "Unavailable" I almost ignored it.

But I didn't and after I answered and the person asked my name and a few other questions the person asked, "Would you like to do a phone interview?"

That was over a year ago. I still have the job.
