1. I don't base my worth as a human being on either my job or what I am paid. However, to |
|
examine your question, I am a teacher. Should professional athletes be paid 20 - 100 times more than professional teachers?
Is that the right value society should have?

2. They shouldn't be paid more than almost any of our professions |

which includes the president. Since we can't raise all employees to their level the only thing we could do is make their level of pay illegal which I don't think will wash either.

3. Our society seems to reward (by it's measures - money, fame) people |
|
such as ceo's, entertainers, and athletes (really, another form of entertainer) more than people who work with the homeless, the poor, teachers, social workers, etc...
I personally view sports as one of the least important things in the universe...

12. Do you base the worth on scarcity? Importance? Training required? |
|
it's a tough call. Although teachers certainly rank high on training and importance of work.

4. According to the statistics on truckers' pay locally |
|
I'm doing a little better than the average driver even though I've had to take a couple of pay cuts this year. My worth as a trucker depends on how well I do my job, just like any other job. My worth as a person in incalculable, just like it is for every other person on the planet.

7. Like MOST other people on the planet, imo. The worth of some that I hear of |
|
in the news is debatable, or even negative...

When I look at job postings, there seem to be a huge range of salaries for food quality and r&d professionals. I think that I probably work harder and under less favorable conditions than I would at some places that pay better. The catch is that better paying positions at better companies are much harder to get. I have to work very hard in a high stress environment with little support for less because I can't interview well. I know that with the economy as it is, I should be greatful to have a job, especially one that pays more than $25,000. I am just so stressed out all the time though.

|
but I really not sure the best way to measure one's worth. It's quite a complex issue, in my mind.

10. I've never judged my worth as a human being or to myself based upon my salary. |
|
I do remember times when I have worked and been asked what do I think. My reply is that I was not being paid to think and if they wanted that then I would need to be paid a great deal more.
