12. The "Tar Man" has got to be one of the greatest horror movie characters of all time

Straight out of EC Comics in spirit...like one of those old Graham Ingels slow-moving, paralyzed on one side, just risen from the dead nightmares in "Haunt of Fear." That was my immediate thought the first time I saw the movie, and the Tar Man..."Graham Ingels."

I loved EC and Creepy horror comics! I'm pretty sure that's what illustrator William Stout was going for when he designed the zombies for ROTLD. Here is his website: http://www.williamstout.com I had the chance to meet him at a convention a few years back. He's a great guy.

you should check out another movie co-written by Dan O'Bannon. It's called "Dead and Buried" and while it isn't anywhere near as graphic as RTLD it's still got those funny touches.
