5. That's one of my uses for them.
I also use them on bags of frozen food. You know, the kind that doesn't think anyone only ever uses just a portion of the bag at one time

11. The clips rust anyway
:P

I've never had them rust but have seen rubber bands break from the low temps, so it's either clips, ziplocks (like for flours) or other plastic containers. And one stainless container for my yeast :hi:

7. Hanging fresh herbs from the chandelier
Our dining room looks like fucking Jumanji!

My wife uses those plastic garment hangers from the store (with the strap hooks) and hangs a binder clip off of each side for balance - the clip holds the stems really well. Then she hooks the hanger over one of the 8 arms of the chandelier, plus one on the center ring. Fortunately there's a table under it or you would need a machete to get from one side to the other.

13. I'm working on my modeling skills (SolidWorks). I'm trying to model a steam engine.
The engineers at work shouldn't have all the fun.

14. I had training in Solidworks back in 2003.
I wouldn't know where to start these days. Working with 3D stuff is fun :) Solidworks can do some cool animations, too, once you have your project finished. AutoCAD Inventor can do that kind of thing, too, but it probably costs more.

Hell, the engineers I've worked with often commented that the stuff I did (mapping, piping) was more fun than what they did (often involving massive spreadsheets.) ;)

15. 3D is the bomb.

I like it when engineers envy my job.

Makes me feel better about my career.

16. Yes, it is
:D

While I make "flat" maps. Or, that's about all most clients want. Survey points still come in three dimensions and we do surface modeling, yet the clients only want the standard alignment sheets and other mapping pages. The 3D aspect just makes the engineering of a pipeline easier. Too often the most headache comes in the form of property issues ;)

17. The only experience I have with surveying was when I was 14 or 15 on my parents farm.
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 05:33 PM by Ptah
It was a Dept of Agriculture program.
There was a field about eighty acres that was usually planted wheat or barley.
Since it was in the irrigation district and a large canal crossed the farm,
it could be worked to be irrigated instead of dry.
I was the surveyor's helper, walking 100 feet, holding the marked stick while he recorded
the data.

Later that spring, dad, and three of his sons, cut and filled that eighty acres.
I think the deepest cut was six feet and the deepest fill was two or three feet.

We ended up with more hours and a better crop.

The Dept of Ag. paid for the fuel.

Ah, the good old days.
