It was year ago tonight that Hurricane Ike hit and we lost two dear friends.

They didn't make it out in time, I know they were going to leave.

Their beach house on Crystal Beach was destroyed like so many others.

This morning a year ago Ike blew in, I can still hear the wind howl.

I miss my friends and the little beach towns that are now gone.

A year ago we were sitting in a house without power thankful we weren't not on the coast.

I miss my friends very much, hope their end came quickly.

Their bodies were never found, maybe never will.

We will go to Crystal Beach this morning to say goodbye to our friends.

Going to the beach now is not the same.

9. I am sorry about your friends

I had almost forgotton about Crystal Beach and the loss of lives there.

I lived in Pensacola for 21 years, where in most areas when they have mandatory evacuation you will be arrested if you dont leave your home when told to. People always are in an uproar about that, but we will probably never know how many lives were saved because of it in Hurrican Ivan.
