2. It was interesting...
in a very Kafkaesque sort of way.

Not to give too much away, but it was very fitting that it was set in S. Africa.

3. I thought it was really good
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 06:08 PM by supernova
I'm sure for those who made it it felt like some kind of catharsis.

edit: The premise is much like the late=80s movie "Alien Nation" i.e. a slave ship is stranded above a major city. What do you do with all the ex-slaves?

Alien Nation was on recently and I tivoed it. Interested compare/contrast.

It's all quick and instantaneous

But I'd be lying if I were to say there isn't any

8. That's humans
It shines a light where few would venture

No doubt the Republicans will hate a movie like this

And no doubt the corporation that rules everything is a stand in for Haliburton or KBR...

13. I have seen both District 9 and 9.
District 9 was an excellent story and loved the low-budget actors!

Seeing black South Africans treating the aliens like they were treated under apartheid and how Jews were treated under the Nazis (medical experimentation to get the aliens weapons to work) was disturbing.

16. Disturbing but human.
White and black South Africans no longer had a reason to be at odds with each other. They had a new "other" they could both demonize. All peoples and cultures no matter what their own history of victimization is capable of this behavior.

17. I guess I saw a different District 9
the one I saw was awful. About 15 minutes into it I was thinking of getting up and leaving. But because I had heard it was good I stuck it out to the bitter end. IT SUCKED. I asked a couple other people if they liked it and they had the same opinion as me.

18. We must have been at the same screening
It was O.K. but I could have waited for the rental DVD and not spent a bunch of money at the theater.

My general reaction...meh.

20. I really liked it but I'm a fan of 80's sci-fi
like Aliens and Robocop (which influenced the director).

It blows all of the other summer action movies out of the water.

Hollywood was caught napping, they need to up their game. Can't wait to see how James Cameron does with Avatar...
