Poll question: Still listen to radio anymore?
Since going to college I weaned myself off of radio since I discovered the existence of video game music soundtracks, anime music soundtracks, and real music, especially in the Hip-Hop and Rap Genre.

I don't listen to radio that much unless I have to.

The more I listen to radio at that point I realize that they rarely broadcast local music, they constantly broadcast the same top 20 singles over and over, and they play only singles of the albulm years after the actual album has already released.

Oh yes, even though there's the FCC safe harbor of indecent content (the seven dirty words), they still broadcast "clean" version of the lyrics.

Anyone still listen to radio? If not, why?

1. Listen to baseball, talk radio.
Rarely listen to music, only when I'm flipping around looking for a station that's not playing a commercial.

9. Same here, when it's possible. "Fred" is amazing.
Haven't listened to "normal" radio for years; even the jazz stations are over-filled with natter and prattle.

20. Same here, hard to find progressive talk on non-satellite radio
Also enjoy the old school & "outlaw" country music and abundance of sports.

5. KOOP/KVRX Austin is Tops!
I love it! Sunday at 11 is a program called Simply Bluegrass and at 12 is Jamaican Gold just to show the diversity of the station, There is alot of modern alternaative and indie (true indie not major corporation ) hip hop and rock. I have also caught a science show and a celtic music hour. I also listen to KUT especially eclectikos and Twine Time.I love my Ipod but it is always nice to hear what other people like

6. Yes, all the time, but I should qualify that...
I listen to the local community radio station (pretty good, too much bluegrass) and the college station, and I like to listen to WFMU and the BBC channels over the 'net. I don't listen to ad-supported radio at all, if I can help it.

7. Yep.
NPR only. I almost never listen to music since songs get stuck in my head waaaay too easily. Who wants to hear the same songs over and over anyway?

8. we have great local radio and I listen nearly every day...
...often for much of the day. Note too that I do not watch television, ever.

KHUM streams on the web, as does the local public radio stations, both of whom I listen to regularly: KHSU and KMUD.

10. NPR every day - couldn't get along without it
I love classical music and NPR and the BBC have the best in calm, reasoned news without all the screaming. Mississippi has a SURPRISINGLY good system of public radio stations covering the entire state. It proved its great worth during Hurricane Katrina.

16. Only NPR and KPIG
via the net, which isn't a Clear Channel property. They used to be totally independent but their new ownership is fucking up the best thing on radio. It's still way better than most commercial radio, tho.
I can't stand to listen to the so-called local stations with their loud obnoxious DJ's and tons of commercials and horrible music selections in an unending loop. :puke:

21. Yep, but only when I'm driving
and its usually a classic rock station, in my area 93.3 the Eagle out of Ar. The rest of the stations I can get are predominately country, religous, or a top 20 hits(which usually isn't my cup of tea).

I am trying to teach myself to bring my mp3 player with me when I go driving, but I always tend to forget, and remember it when I'm about 10 miles from home.

Sorry for you if you're in a market that doesn't have it. Supremely sorry if you have to resort to Sirius or XM "radio".

27. Another vote for NPR, and WBAI when I'm close enough...
to NYC to get it. We've got three (or four, depending on how you count them) NPR stations here, and a classical station or two. The clock radios in the bedroom and next to the computin' box are set to NPR.

There's always traffic and weather on the all news stations, and 5 minutes of Limbaugh if I'm in a too good a mood and have to change it.

28. all the time
rareley listen to my cds or records (yes - hundreds) Tucson is blessed with a damn good community radio station (KXCI 91.3) and I can actually pull it in 50 miles to the east.

Just now finishing up a rebroadcast of a concert they put on a couple weeks ago - local bands covering Woodstock performances - been playing it for 4.5 hours. (they are in beg for money mode but they only do it twice a year now) Next show at 9 will feature a LIVE performance by a local band - and that is a regular Monday evening show.

You can catch the last (Hendrix) set of the Woodstock show here http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kxci/ppr/index.shtml

29. only in the car, and rarely at that
i usually like things quiet...but when i listen to radio, it's a classical music station or npr. VERY rarely, i'll take some cds with me when on a road trip, and that runs the gamut.

radio is obsolete.

30. Work car with no CD player. Radio wins
Though its rarely music anymore. The speakers are crap, and I cant take the sound quality. So I listen to most of the progressive lineup, excepting Randi, who's arbitrarily argumentative nature I cannot take.

31. Never. Because it's all crap.
I leave the stereo on for the dogs in their rumpus room. The station varies. Myself? Never.

At the gym, they play some garbage station. My Zen drowns it out. In the car, I usually spend that time to drive without the distraction. If I'm on a long drive, it's CDs or the aforementioned Zen.

Every now and then, I'll listen to WMNF when I can catch the local politics and Democracy Now! but that doesn't really count as "radio" I don't think.

NC State, Shaw, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke. No need to go above 91.5...

It mostly sucks. My boyfriend just got an HD radio and he's really enjoying the different--and more creative--stations there. Problem is the sound goes in and out.
