8. Toby Keith is a Democrat.
"It's amazing how many Republicans call me for support. And then they go, 'You're a Republican right?' And you go, 'Well I'm actually a lifetime Democrat,'" he said. "And then they go, 'Oh, sorry.' And the Democrats want so bad — the real liberals really want to hate me. And then they go, 'I still hate you, but I can't believe you're a Democrat.' So I'm not a real political guy. I'm a very patriotic guy."

sorry, them's the facts.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/19/toby-keith-praises-obama_n_119930.html

LOS ANGELES — Barack Obama is getting praise from Nashville, courtesy of one big, patriotic country star.

Toby Keith, perhaps best known to non-country audiences for his post-Sept. 11 song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," says he's a Democrat, and was impressed by the senator from Illinois.

Keith has said in the past that the 2002 song _ which included lines aimed at the Taliban like "we lit up your world like the Fourth of July" _ was more patriotic than pro-war.

Asked while promoting his new movie "Beer For My Horses" about the role of patriotism in the current presidential election, Keith replied: "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.

"So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things.

"So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat."

and Kanya West would certainly not touch a mic he was holding. Maybe we need more dems who won't by bullied.

16. he claims to be
a conservative democrat.

But, according to Wikipedia, he endorsed W in 2004, and preformed at a pre election rally in Dallas, Texas the night before the election in 2004 in support of Bush.

That is pretty odd behavior for a Democrat.

32. He has only donated to the GOP
When it comes to putting his considerable income to where his rancid mouth is, he has only donated to Bush and the GOP. How is that for "reasonably well-informed"?

36. That doesn't mean he's a Republican
Lot's of Democrats choose to support various Republicans from time to time. Not everyone is completely polarized one way or another. At one time, TK supported Bush and he may still and he made no secret of that. He's also supported Democrats. I don't particularly care for his music or his politics, but claiming to be a Democrat considering his fan base takes a bit of stones.

38. He's a shit "Democrat"
I bet he never said it to his fans at any of his concerts. He would be booed off the stage in a hurry. He's a shit Democrat if he can't pony up for even a local candidate once in awhile, let alone a national race. Hell, even Ted Nugent and Hank Williams Jr., both avowed Republicans and ultra-conservatives, are on record as having donated to Democrats in the not-so-distant past. Pretty goddamned sad that they have given more money to the Democrats than someone who allegedly claims to be one. Just for supporting Bush, at any time, really makes him a shit Democrat.

I don't think it's wrong to equate donations with convictions when one has the financial means as he does. He has stones of styrofoam.

39. He's no Ted Nugent
You're solely basing your assesment on what someone has or hasn't given to political parties. As far as celebrities go, what they say is far more significant. I don't care how much Ted Nugent gives to any Democrat. He deserves to be thrown from a helicopter screaming and I wouldn't mind if Hank Williams, Jr followed him out the door. While I certainly wouldn't call TK a reliable or even good Democrat, I sure as hell wouldn't even put him in the same ballpark as the other two.

37. If I didn't know you better, I'd be offended by that.
You're fantasizing about a white redneck whippin' up on an uppity black man? No, no, no. Not a fantasy of mine. Anyway, why would Toby Keith win a "Best Video by a Female Performer" award.

Kanye West (in case you don't know who he is, he's the hip-hop artist and producer who claimed "Bush doesn't like black people" at a Katrina benefit show, and performed at the 2008 Democratic convention, so Republicans are just salivating over this) needs his ego brought down a few notches, but he doesn't need to be lynched or destroyed as a person for what he did. He's thrown tantrums before when he didn't win, and he's interrupted male performers, too, so it wasn't because she was a white chick and he was a big black brute. He's just a celebrity who hasn't been told "No" enough times to learn that he can't do everything he wants. Like Christian Bale. Like Russle Crowe. Like Mel Gibson. Like Tim Commerford.

It was a low moment in his life, and I suspect he'll pay for it, since he did it in front of, and to, his colleagues. As a producer, he relies on people like Beyonce, Jay Z (her husband), and the entire industry for recommendations, and right now I think he's going to get dumped from a lot of programs. No one wants to associate with him. There are rumors that Lady Gaga is backing out of a tour with him, just after the dates of the tour were announced, and Kanye himself says he might disappear for a while.

Probably didn't help that he'd been drinking heavily, and it probably didn't help either that he's still grieving over the stunning death of his mother and the fallout of that whole affair.

He needs to be harshly condemned for this, and he will be professionally shunned enough to get his attention for it, but he doesn't need to be taught a lesson on stage by a big white guy.
