Is this s trend? Were people always this obnoxious in public or am I just noticing it now?

5. of course it isn't real
but it's encouraging people to behave badly and look how many people suck it up - it's downright depressing

2. It seems to be the norm these days.
I don't know what the explanation is for this phenomenom, but it's not fit for any society.

4. You're right
I don't remember this happening, as frequently, when I was young. Maybe I blocked it out!

7. Freedom of speech
The trouble is, nobody bothers to say "What happens on television is not even remotely reflective of real life."

Except that Star Trek TNG episode from 1991, "First Contact", where a great statement is said by a character on the difference between what's shown as entertainment and what's tolerated in their society's behavioral norms.

(no relation to the shite movie).

8. Jean Baudrillard wrote about this
His argument was that media influences take an extreme view on 'reality' (as it exists in that time-frame) and over time the media version of reality supplants the actual reality and the process continues. If you look at the debasement of American civil life (over time) in the context of what we watch on television I think you'd find some scary parallels.

10. Well, so many people are famous for their bad behavior
that few people have any incentive to behave themselves.

There are plenty of adults that never grew up, and like children, they'll resort to behaving badly to get ANY kind of attention.

14. A lot of people can't even stand in line anymore.....
(unless they have no choice, as in the grocery store)

I've been in several circumstances where people are suppose to go one by one at an Event, Store or whatever and instead all gather around, haphazardly like a God-Damn pack of lost hyenas looking like their IQ just dropped 50 points.

Fuckin' Aggravating
