I'm thinking of nicknaming my mother "Stormcrow"...
I know, I know, it's kinda mean, but come on:

My Aunt has MRSA,
My Father may have Swine Flu,
My other Aunt is having complications from chemo,
And I just found all of this out tonight in her weekly phone call, along with a lot of other minor stuff.

I'm not complaining about the bad news given to me tonight, per se, because I DO want to be kept in the loop on family developments, but this is just par for the course for her. Past phone calls have included many conversations on hometown deaths, closing businesses, and other such wonderful topics that are just wonderful pickmeuppers. Every week she calls it's like "here's your weekly dose of depression..."

I guess I don't want her to STOP calling...maybe misery just loves company. Does anybody else have this problem?

1. I burned a ton of family bridges.
I get my bad news from mainly the same two people. I don't blame the messenger.

That said, Stormcrow is a kickass nickname! FUCK YEAH!

2. All mothers are the same -
my father was like that, too. That was always the big news.

I had one aunt, Pam, who was chronically ill. Always, it was "Your aunt isn't doing well, not well at all."

Sometimes it would be "Pam's doing a little better."

Finally, there was the call, "Your aunt Pam took a turn for the worse."

"Again?" I asked. I mean, this had been going on for YEARS.

"Yes," my mother said, "she died this morning."

This is how it is after you and your parents reach a certain age. It's just normal, don't sweat it, and make sure you have enough "Get Well" cards on hand. In a few years, you'll be buying Sympathy Cards by the box......................................

7. I wasn't trying to be mean...
Actually I was just trying to inject a little levity, if that's the right word. I appreciate your input, so just consider my last post a poor attempt at humor.

:dunce:

Friends?

4. Misery does love company...it's a human thing....
and your ma loves your company, I think. Maybe you can interject cheerful news or cheerful questions or remembrances of happier days in your childhood.
Keep the line buzzing with all your good news. (Just a thought.)

8. Admittedly I did take the reference from Wormtounge
But after all, it's a great nickname for someone who often travels with ill news...

Good catch. :hi:
