What's your idea of the most beautiful place in the world?

For me it's the Isle of Skye

1. Southeast Alaska, the panhandle

not as far south as say, Metlakatla, but a few hundred miles south of Juneau, perhaps Sitka/Petersburg Area. The Metlakatla area is a damn rain magnet.

5. its a lot better in the summer time, especially the month of July

some of the above pics were taken during the summer time, and it was overcast still. Its crazy how the weather is, my family use to live about 80 miles outside of town, yet we recieved about 1/2 the rainfall that Ketchikan did...it appears the further north you go up the panhandle, the less rain(although its still substantial).

In Ktown we get a lot of rain, one year I recall 202 inches...and those whiners in Washington better appreciate the rain they get...:evilgrin:

without the beautiful sunset effects, the Owens Valley is a desolate, ugly-assed dried up valley with a man-made aqueduct in the middle.

You need to head over to the other side of the Sierra Range to the West.

Yosemite, of course.

until the city of Los Angeles took their water. It was a huge battle. The excellent book: "Cadillac Desert" tells it nicely and Jack Nicholson in "Chinatown" puts on a fine performance.

However, Yosemite IS heaven on earth. I miss it so.

Wicklow mountains outside Dublin-there you can visit Glendalough and Powers Court and Johnny Fox's (pub). The national stud farm in Kildare is beautiful (there's a Japanese tea garden there as well). Cork City is a blast. And definitely stop and have seafood in Kinsale and tour the fort (St. James' I think it's called) when you're on the Ring. You're going to have so much fun!!

60. Mom's old "cabin" in the Poconos in PA. It was a stone house

built in the 1920's, on top of a hill at the end of a road among huge trees and woods. In the winter snow, it was perfectly quiet and beautiful. There was an 100 year old orchard behind it, with a forgotten variety of apples growing on the untended trees.

It's long gone, sold after she died.
