I want to be an editor, but I have little experience.
My professor let me edit her doctorate and make her an index, but besides that, I haven't done a lot of editing. I've been in a lot of pain lately with my ulcers, liver disorder, and backaches. If only I could edit some material for money.

1. What is your degree in and what is your other work experience in?
Also, and I sincerely don't mean to be rude, why do you think you are gifted in this field?

2. Please don't laugh, okay?
I majored in Religious Studies in college. I graduated in 2004, magna cum laude.
Not too much work experience, but I worked in a couple libraries.

I've been told that I'm good at writing. I don't mean to brag, but I did get straight A's in my major. I'm embarrassed about my degree because I'm an atheist now, but it was well-written papers that got it done.

4. Check out your nearest large university and see if they have editing coursees

I'm serious. Taking a course or two (you don't have to major in it) gives you more credibility.

If you want to free-lance for a publisher, they'll have you take an editing test, and you'll have to know the standard ways to code a manuscript.

Otherwise, ask your professor to recommend you to people. Most free-lance work of all sorts comes about because one satisfied customer recommends you to someone else.

5. There might even be internships available for something like that.
Everyone wants to be a writer; not everyone wants to be an editor. It might not be that difficult to get someone's attention about getting a job.

Hope you get some relief from your pain, soon, sweetie... :hi:

6. Advertise -
If you're near any educational institutions, post ads for yourself. Keep them simple, just state that you are available to edit - and then list the kinds of documents with which you want to work - and state that your fees are available upon request.

And don't go cheap. People don't value anything that they get cheap, so make sure you know what comparable rates are in your area.

Feel better, my friend. Life is easier to handle when you feel better................................

7. Check out this link.
I'm a copy editor and I was thinking of doing some free-lance work also.
