You know who is an underrated American Director ?
Clint Eastwood .... don't care if he is a republican .

His "unforgiven" was just epic ..... His "Million dollar Baby" was oh so sad. And his "Mystic River" was the closest thing to Shakespeare I saw in a movie theatre. I don't know, he has a mild Michelangelo Antonioni vibe that I like , albeit in a more intuitive and less cerebral manner.

1. Mystic River was amazing.

He's a very talented director. I still haven't seen Gran Torino.

2. From what I understand, he isn't exactly a "republican".

3. I love Clint.
As an actor and director. He's a conservative but has a liberal streak. Not a rethug by any means. Did you see Gran Torino?

4. Gran Torino was pretty cool, too
Just as good as advertised, and when is a film ever THAT?

5. Watch Dirty Harry - the first one. Directed by Don Siegel, a great director
and the director of several earlier films with Eastwood (Coogan's Bluff is one). Siegel helped and coached Eastwood on being a director over the course of their various films and helped Clint direct Play Misty For Me, his moody first directorial job. Siegal is another underrated director - much of the gritty, almost TV colors, '70's style of shooting came from his work, and he was instrumental to Clint's learning to direct.
Eastwood's later films are just great - Torino was excellent.
