Am I un-American or just a freak?
I've never watched 'Survivor' or 'American Idol.' Not even once.

3. That makes two of us.
Sounds like a conspiracy. If we get one more we'll have a movement.

18. Let's form a club.
It's bad enough that these shows suck...but they get cited and bits rerun elsewhere, junking up other shows.

4. Same here -
plus, I've never seen any of the Dancing With The Stars shows. The reality shows are dreadful, and I honestly don't understand the appeal of watching people do things when you could be doing things with your own life. Time wasted, and all that.

However, I am a sucker for the Real Housewives shows - most notably the ladies from New Jersey, since they all remind me of my family and growing up with them.

But, either we're dirty Commies or just people with discriminating taste. In either event, you are not alone, madame, and I believe you're in some very fine company.....................

19. Hey, nice to be a member of a discerning audience!
I was talking with a friend who is involved in the television entertainment biz on several levels. She was saying that the first reality shows were devised to fill airspace in the uncertain months following 9-11, that there was reluctance to invest in programing that might not have opportunity to air. The success of the shows was largely unexpected but big enough to spur copycatting on a wide scale, to the great benefit of producers who don't have to pay writing staff or actors. According to my friend, 'reality television' views creativity as an unnecessary expense. If true, it's terribly sad. And I do remember thinking, when 'Survivor' and its premise were first announced, that it provided a setting that invited and then rewarded the worst human inclinations. What little I know about 'Idol' was picked up when it was discussed as 'news'. I remember watching a b/w television talent show that had an applause meter; but I don't recall week after week sniping or gaga commentary about contestants presented as 'news.' bitch bitch bitch . . .
