A Question About Taking Things For Granted.
I was just watching my hands work and thought, "I take my hands for granted."

Does the fact that I noticed, and was then very grateful, mean that I no longer take them for granted?

Welcome to the weirdness in my brain.

7. Nothing weird about your brain
You said yesterday that you were unsettled and unhappy.

Then your brain took you into a psychological survival mode by finding something for you to be happy about--grateful for.

Which just brings us to that old Rolling Stones song "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need."

BTW, I can't wait to someday shake your hand, so I'm glad you've got them too. (Oh, and I guess I'm glad I've got mine.)

8. I predict you will forget about the marvel that is your hands.
At that time, you will again be taking them for granted. :D

I know what you're saying though. I think one of the secret means to happiness is to take nothing for granted, not one's hands, not the texture and color of the fabric of one's shirt, and not the interesting mixture of colors in a coworker's eyes. Focus on these small things and it's almost impossible to be unhappy.

9. Yes it does
I don't take mine for granted ever since I got one diced up in the radiator fan of a car.

I really really do not take them for granted, as I am reminded how fortunate I am every time I close my right hand.

Plus I got to get a really good look at the bones, joints, and tendons and what my hands look like inside..

I actually held my index finger with my other hand and articulated it and thought "wow that's amazing" while watching things move in there.

11. I always took my typing skills for granted. Thought typing was like learning a language
It's just weird that without any thinking I can type out the thoughts in my brain and at a pretty fast speed.

12. I took walking for granted until the first time I suffered from a pinched Femoral nerve.
I took my ability to walk down stairs for granted until I wrecked my knee recently.

I think it's human nature to overlook the things that work, and never fully appriciate just how dependant we are on extremely complex systems working consistently well without serious glitches.

Consider yourself blessed Bertha, you came to that conclusion and still have your hands, there are many other people who had to lose an appendage to realize just how much good it did them.

13. I feel lucky I can use my hands and here's why--I have arthritis and
often when people have arthritis they get it in their hands and fingers. But luckily I don't have it there.

14. My dear Bertha...
I remember, when I was in nursing school, my instructor telling us: "Consider where hands go, and what they do."

And it made me think about how many ways hands are useful, or harmful...

I often remember her saying that, and I'm grateful for that memory...

As well as for the use of my hands...
