What the hell would have caused my soup pot to rust?

I have a Teflon coated soup pot that's bottom has started rusting out on for no reason. I don't use metal utensils on it. I didn't do any crazy scorching on anything I made. I didn't scrub it with anything that would have scratched through the coating. I don't get it.

I tried to boil a bunch of water in it today to make sure that the brown rusty looking spots at the bottom weren't just some kind of film left over from washing and white bubbles and a white film started to cover the surface of the water. What the hell is going on?

1. Do you hand-wash the pot when you clean it, or do you use the dishwasher?

The chemicals in dish detergent you put in the dishwasher are corrosive to non-stick materials, so if that could be the cause.

If not, then I'm not sure. Sorry to hear about it!
