I just realized what a HUGE band geek I am |
|
Miss Millie's thread had me looking up Jekyll and Hyde the musical songs since we did those those in high school for one of our field shows and I totally remembered some of the moves we had to do.
I am SUCH a band geek!

1. Hey, I was an orchestra nerd. |
|
We got subjected to cruel and unusual punishment by playing the popular musicals & pop songs of the day. "The Age of Aquarius" "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" "Love is Blue" "A Summer Place" "Hair"

9. We did classical AND pop stuff. |
|
Also, we did a school musical when I was in the ninth and tenth grade, so I discovered the joys of life in a black hole known as a pit orchestra (IT'S THE PITS!)
We did South Pacific and Oklahoma!
And did a damn good job, too.

2. In the late 70's we were band fags. |
|
The "fags" part had nothing to do with homosexuality, it was just the term. We were proud of it.
At the 10th year reunion, almost everyone who showed up was a "band fag". The entire class had been contacted with exactly the same invitation. We were the ones who showed up.
So much for the "popular" shitheads.

3. Not band geek, but band weenie... |
|
Not band geek, but band weenie. That's how we described ourselves... :)
Here I am, 20+ years later, and I still reminisce about the shows, f-b games, and competitions we'd go to.
Up until recently, PBS would regularly show the DCI Championships every year, and I always looked forward to watching it. PBS stopped running it recently though, but I still get a wee bit nostalgic when I'm driving past a HS in the early mornings between Aug and Nov and hear one marching band or another practicing.

5. it was the thread where you linked the "Someone Like You" song |
|
it had the same name as one of the songs from Jekyll and so it triggered my flashback, lol.
I wish we had played rock songs. My band director always had us do stuff from musicals. The only plus from that was that it usually meant a band trip to NYC to see that year's chosen musical and hang out in the city.
