Anyone else have a cat that likes eating something weird?
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 04:27 PM by Archae
Erin, my male tabby, loves hard-boiled egg yolks.
I give him about 1/4 of one, and he's happy.

12. My mom had a SIamese cat crazy for corn on the cob.
...And she didn't have the right kind of teeth to eat it properly, so she left a punctured, half masticated mess. But that didn't matter, she loved the stuff.

46. The late great Fergie did too
Hi,
My dearly departed cat liked popcorn and chips, probably the salt. My current cat seems to be uninterested in any human food, but I never gave her any when she was a kitten.

Peace

And Missy, the grey and white kitty in my sigline, loves beer. She is the only cat that I've ever heard of that doesn't recoil at the smell of alcohol, and the bitter taste.

14. Beans, squash, pumpkin, baked goods, melon...
My handsome boy just loves beans, squash and pumpkin. Had I known that when he was a kitten, I would have named him "Squanto." He also loves Italian food, as did my dearly departed first kitty. My third kitty goes nuts over cantaloupe and honeydew melon.

My deceased cat just adored baked goods. I have numerous stories of her ripping into plastic bags to get at biscuits, flat breads and the like. I once set a pan of muffins on the stove to cool. A while later, I went to take them out of the pan, and she had eaten chunks out of nearly all of them. When Lent would come around she would always share a paczki with me. Not the filling, however--unless it was custard.

17. Our Siamese eats chips.
Corn chips, tortilla chips, potato chips, Cheetos, take your pick. I've even tried him on some really weird and pretty revolting flavored chips, and he's never met one he wouldn't scarf down. He's always done this, and he's past 20 now. Maybe it's some sort of fountain of youth for cats.

19. (Had...). He would get "high" on green olives - like catnip only more intense.
It wasn't because of alcohol, because this would happen if he had one straight from the bottle. He''d roll in the juice and just get all crazy and giddy. It was hysterical... I just wish I knew what it was about green olives that did this to him. He LOVED them - (but rarely enjoyed them, because we didn't know what was happening or if it was bad for him. Didn't seem to be he'd recover after every green olive atom was ingested...) I've never had another cat who would show any interest in green olives - quite the opposite.

Man, I loved him - still do. He died years ago when I was in college at the ripe old age of 20.

26. Do Brussels sprouts count as weird for cat cuisine?
Current cat LOVES them. One of my old cats did too, and she lived to 21.

Current cat is one strong, healthy feline. If she doesn't push her luck with attacking people, she may live as long as the last Brussels sprout eatin' feline.

27. One of my cats likes popcorn and potato chips
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 12:09 AM by distantearlywarning
But his favorite human food treat is tortilla chips. He can smell them anywhere in the house and comes running.

Luckily he's a very polite cat and doesn't make a nuisance of himself asking for treats. He just sits quietly next to your chair and makes sweet faces until you give him something. And he's usually satisfied with a few bits of chip. I don't typically condone feeding pets human food, but I figure less than half a tortilla chip or a few popcorn pieces every few weeks won't kill anybody, and it makes him really happy.

And this isn't exactly eating, but this same cat goes absolutely nuts for roses. We can't keep roses on any surface he can reach, because he will bite the heads off and knock them all over the floor and roll on them. He starts vibrating if anyone brings a bouquet in the house, and will jump up on counters and tables (he knows he's not allowed up there) to get at them if you look away for a second while putting them in a vase. It's nuts. I've never seen a cat do anything like that before.

28. One of mine loves broccoli, another likes marinara.
The third refuses to eat anything but Purina One Healthy Weight. No interest in other cat foods or human foods. He had to stay at the vet for a few days and they were panicked because he wouldn't eat their Science Diet food. So, I dropped off a bag of Purina One and he was fine.

The beagle will eat anything. Absolutely anything.

Go into the freezer for anything other than ice cream, and she doesn't move. Touch an ice cream container, and she's suddenly sprinting. She can also detect when ice cream enters the house, especially if it is vanilla.

Normal Hannah:

...keeps bringing her dead birds it has caught. Showing off its trophies to mama or something, I guess.

What's worse is he leaves them on her chest while she's asleep in bed. I just about jumped out of my skin the first time it happened because she woke-up with a scream. He's done it about 4 times now and--ugh!--she's gotten used to it.

She scolds the damn cat but you know how they are. I keep telling her to keep him inside but she says that wouldn't be fair to a wild animal (he was a stray). I reply it's not fair to the birds or the bed linen.
