3. Sorry, but I hate the Yankees. Considering they own baseball and have |

completely ruined any competition.
Thanks, Steinbrenner and Selig.

They only have one world championship this millennium (if you count 1/1/00 as the beginning of it).
Although, come to think of it, that's actually pretty good by comparison...

Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 01:33 PM by msanthrope
I mean, as a Yankee fan, I hear this complaint all the time. But mostly I hear it from fans whose teams suffer from owners who aren't willing to put the money into farm talent, administration, managing, and finally, players.
Who do you root for? If you tell me it's the Orioles, I'll tell you what's wrong with your team---Peter Angelos. He is the reason you've got an under .500 w/l. Not Steinbrenner.

30. Well, first of all, I'm not an Oriole fan. What is the problem, is the there |
|
is not an equitable revenue sharing plan in baseball as there is in most every other sport. An equitable solution has never been implemented in bb due to owners like Stienbrenner. God forbid anyone raid their cash cow. BB is a FUCKING JOKE the way it is set up. Had assholes like Steinbrenner not thwarted revenue sharing, maybe they would have a system that would force the smaller market teams be competive with the large market teams.
FFS, if the NFL had the lack of planning baseball did, Green Bay would not have had a winning season in 30 years.!

32. How is the Yankees fault that you have teams that get more |
|
money through the share system then they spend on their players?
The Yanks are the biggest contributors to the revenue sharing plan....it's Stienbrenner's fault that MLB allowed the 2005-2006 Marlins to firesale and pocket their share? Tampa Bay did the same thing.
And that's somehow the Yankees' fault? You are right--it's NOT equitable when teams who receive the share aren't made to spend it on being competitive.

The agreement that Steinbrenner signed on to allowed him to spend endlessly on whatever he wants. When was the last time you heard of a team in the top five or even ten doing a fire sale. Maybe if they were truly doing revenue sharing as it is done in the NFL and even the NBA, it would set up a plan that would force teams at the bottom to put a quality team on the field and not allow a team like the NY to outspend it nearest competitor by nearly 2-1. That is a disgrace.
Don't forget that Steinbrenner and the Yankees hide much of the revenue in their television network (do you see anything like that in the NFL??) and their marketing networks?? The answer is no. Look at the NFL and you will see a league that is designed around parity and taking money out of the factor. Revenue is shared (between teams, players, and the television contracts).
Yes. The Steinbrenner/Selig model of baseball has ruined the sport.

39. The Marlins firesaled their World Series team. Twice. I would |
|
call getting rid of talent on a top 5 team.
Now, I agree with you that MLB needs to force the teams at the bottom to put a quality team on the field, BUT, how is it George Steinbrenner's fault when other owners aren't willing to spend? The fact is, NO team should be pocketing their revenue share, but they do it.
As for the YES network, what prevents any baseball team from doing the same? I live in the 4th largest television market in the US. So do the Phillies. Does the ownership group get off its collective geratric ass and start a network? No, they let Comcast hold fans hostage. Think the BoSox couldn't get a network together?
And please don't lump George with Pud. George despises him, and Selig routinely likes to play games--the Yankees weren't allowed to end the 2008 season at home, in Yankee Stadium. They've been fighting over the DH issue for decades, and the WBC for years.
The NFL is about parity? For whom? The NFL, whose owners are pushing a lockout in 2011? The NFL, whose NFLPA is talking about lowering pension benefits and disability? The NFL's CBA is about to explode--because the owners want MORE money to them, and less to the player.

26. Actually, if either manager is smart, neither will sweep... |
|
...at this point they both need to be looking towards the off-season...even if America's Beloved Team beats your Evil Do-ers, there's still 2 games to make up...probably wouldn't happen in a week, even with America's Beloved, All-Knowing, All-Good Team getting to finish the season at home with two cellar-dwellers.
