1. NPR gets a fair amount of criticism here on DU. But |
|
I love the variety and have listened to that show. The local radio consist of classic rock and preachers for the most part. I always though it was American Roots. Most NPR show you can listen to online also.
Johnny Cash is a true American legend. He had a lot to do with bringing rock and folk together with what was then country music on his TV show.

2. I thought it was "Roots" too |
|
until one night Dolly Parton was on and they discussed the name. Nick Spitzer pronounces it "roots" and Dolly says "routs."

5. Nick Spitzer does a great show |
|
And he's a very cool and interesting guy. I work in public radio and went to a conference in New Orleans eleven months after Katrina. He took a few of us on a personal tour of the city and then out to dinner afterwards; it was incredible, both what we saw (you would have thought the storm was a week before not eleven months) and the stories he told. He came up to Michigan for a special event with my station last year and was great. It's a good show and he's a great guy.

6. Thanks for the insight. |

You can tell he loves his city by the way he talks about it.

9. We visited the studio too |
|
And went up to the rooftop deck for a beautiful panoramic vista of the city. The tourist areas were brightly lit but the neighborhoods were pitch black. Still didn't have power after all that time. It was chilling.
