well son of a bitch, my cat's got a rival now
twice today a cat with a collar came around the back porch and both times my cat, who's safely inside, turned into a howling banshee. The second time, just a couple minutes ago, the outside cat actually came up to the door and the two cats were trying to attack each other through the glass. I now have a nice scratch on my hand when I made the mistake of pulling my cat back during the first encounter. I can't really cover up the window as it's a large sliding glass door. Anyone else have experience of an outside cat harassing your inside cats?

1. Pickles used to go at it through the window with a large fluffy tuxedo kitteh, And since the
place we lived in at the time had more holes and gaps than a sieve, this critter would also stick his paw in under the woodshed door and she would seize on that and beat the crap out of it.

You might try discouraging the other kitteh from coming around? In Pickles case I think I may have shot her with a water pistol to distract her, but I think that may not have always worked. (This was about 13 years ago, so I forget exactly what all went on, except for the two of them fighting through the window and under the door. *snaps fingers* I remember, other kitteh belonged to the upstairs tenants, who moved away not long after we moved in. Guess that won't help you at all. :( )

3. i banged the window and that scared the other cat away
the other cat actually jumped OVER a 7 foot fence in one bound as it ran away. :wow: But other than that, I have no idea who this cat belongs too.

2. Sure. I did.
But mine is a 25 pound, non-fat, extremely large and muscled Maine Coon tomcat. I solved the problem by opening the door. Once. Problem solved.

4. heh, mine is a 16 pounder with quite a bit of fat, large calico
I think it would be a pretty even fight, so I wouldn't risk initiating one.

my cat Riff Raff plays window twister at 01:00 AM with a friggin' raccoon

I suspect this adolescent raccoon may think Riff Raff is a raccoon because of the black band across his eyes :D

10. LOL, that's funny
sure hope Riff Raff is spayed/nuetered. Don't want any kitty-raccoon hybrids running around.

he was an injured stray I caught in a feral trap - I tried to make him an indoor cat - negative - we've come to an agreement - he goes out when he drives me nuts but sooner or later he must return :D

9. Not an outside cat.
My neighbor's hound.

Erin (my tabby male) HATES that dog.
He likes the other neighbors' dogs.

But he hates that hound.
And he says so too!

12. Stray cats are really attracted by a sliding, glass door. Easier to case the place. nt

14. well if the cat comes around today while I'm at work
that should give them plenty of time to get it all worked out of their systems. I'd laugh if I came home to the other cat just lounging against the glass.

16. I have a five year old kitten who goes crazy at the sight of an outside cat. He sneers and

spits and hisses so bad me and the older cat always go running into the room she is in to save her (she sounds like she is being attacked). The most polite looking outdoor cat is always sitting there bewildered.

I think it is because once she hit 3 years old she stopped being a kitten and stopped playing with the old cat (a big male). Since then he has establish dominance and often nips at her butt or forces her to move off of a favourite spot. I think because she is low cat on the totem pole she all of a sudden is territorial.

17. my cat's usually very low mannered
but let her see another cat or animal and she goes nuts. The family I rent from was catsitting a neighbor's cat and the cat wandered down to my floor. I woke up to see my cat yowling and hissing at this new cat while the new guy sat there with these wide, frightened eyes, lol. I had to lck my cat in my bedroom till the new guy went upstairs. I guess I will always have to have a 1 animal household as long as I have Esther.
