1. We're going to the Oktoberfest in the afternoon
so something substantial there, maybe some pork, knödel and kraut. For dinner, weißwursts, pretzels and Obazta cheese. Next week it's back to American food.

12. Alas, frozen shells and jar sauce--don't tell my grandmother!
They were all right though. Mr. MG is always comparing effort to benefit and recommending that we not bother with a whole lot of "from scratch" meals (mac and cheese excluded--for him, "from scratch" is a must, so by now I've got it down to a science).

At the last minute I booted the menfolk out of the house and decided to stay behind. Enjoying the silence and doing a little freelance work. :hi:

15. OMG you devil!
As it happens, I've had a hankerin' (okay, I'm in the south, wanna make somethin' of it???) for pot pie lately. Marie what's her name's pot pie has like 660 calories, so I passed. Do you have a recipe? And besides, why am I worried about 660 calories when I had a double pounder with cheese???? I'm sick.

18. I don't use a recipe.
Basically I poach a couple of chicken breasts (skin on, bone in) until the meat is tender, then I remove the skin, take the meat off the bone and cube it. Depending on how big I'm making the pie I sautee a certain amount of onions, chopped celery and carrots in about 2T butter & 2T canola oil (more for a bigger pie... I'm going to make a white sauce). When the veggies are nearly tender I add the same amout of oil as I added fat to the pan, and mix it up with the veggies, cooking the veggies and paste for about three or four minutes more. Finally I add a certain amount of milk and/or chicken broth and stir it in until the vegetables are in a smooth sauce, then I cook the sauce until boiling, and after it boils, cook and stir for about a minute, then remove from the heat. At this point I add any herbs I might like (usually tarragon but it could be thyme or whatever you prefer) and some freshly ground pepper and salt to taste. This mixture I pour into a pie plate either with or without a bottom crust, put on a top crust, flute the edges and cut a couple holes in the top for steam. Bake at 400 degrees for about 35 minutes or until the pastry is lightly browned.

Obviously you can put whatever you want in this pie... even canned stew if that's as much cooking as you do.

with some melted cheese on top and bite-sized torilla chips - well, and some fresh jalapeno slices. And some chicken livers. Okay, not all at once. dinner time is from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, so I'm into a variety of stuff. Okay. So I'm chubby. Wanna make somethin' of it?????

edit: to correct spelling of "slices" from "clises" :)

24. Definitely!
Spaghetts is my go-to meal for hurried comfort. And my dogs, a few pillows, a thick blanket, and something made out of fleece. I'll just grab a shirt that doesn't fit any more or an old "truckers" blanket so long as it's fleece :P

26. It definitely was! I had done the cheesy potatoes before, but this was the
first time I thought to put broccoli and bacon crumbles on it. (And by cheesy potatoes I don't mean the scalloped sort. I just throw small chunks of margarine, cheddar, mozzarella, and Monterrey jack on there to melt. No milk whatsoever. :) )
