1. They haven't looked very good getting there.
Though to be fair, some of the play calling by Philips is flat out dumb and not the player's fault. This game should have been over by halftime.

3. Jason Garrett is calling the offense. Yeah, some of the play calling
has been questionable. It's been noticeable since last year.

33. If they had a good OC they'd be fearsome.
They have the talent to hang with anyone, but Garrett can't coach beyond a college level yet. He's got some clever ideas, but he can't build a scheme that carries them through a whole game or whole season. By halfway through the year, every other team will know what they are doing before Romo gets the snap.

Philips is a great defensive coordinator, but I can't tell what he does as head coach. If he is responsible for that whole "Let's score three points in the first quarter and try to run the clock out the rest of the game," he needs to be in the unemployment line behind Garrett. He seems like one of those coaches who likes to hand the ball over to his defense to win, rather than scoring 30 points a game and giving the defense some room for error. With Romo, Witten, Williams (TO last year), Miles Austin, Patrick Crayton, and three running backs who can catch out of the backfield, there is no reason to even have a punter, but Wade gets some spiritual orgasm from running the ball up the middle to kill a drive so he can punt and then let his defense take over.

You give them a good coaching staff, and the Cowboys are one of the top teams in the NFL. But with what they have, they'll be lucky to earn a wild card spot, since everyone will know what they are doing before they do by the end of the season.

7. How 'bout em?!?!?!?
At least they were able to cobble together a win with Romo taking the snaps. He was noticeably lacking in his customary turnovers, though there were a couple that would have been picked by a better defense.

Well, they would have been if Josh Howard hadn't made that absolutely bone-headed play at the end of a game against the Heat.

32. I kinda like Cuban
Ordinarily I despise people my age with more money than God.

However he does treat his players really well.

A park in my hometown now has an absolutely gorgeous basketball court in an impoverished neighborhood because this is where Howard is from. Cuban did that with minimal publicity.

I also liked the fact that he temporarily published the email addresses of the people that sent him racist comments about Howard.

He also bankrolls that studio that put out Good Night & Good Luck

And his blog has some great material. I don't agree with everything he says but he's one of the more thoughtful tycoons.

27. And they won't sniff a playoff win yet again this year.
At least until they bounce Wade Phillips. Great 3-4 D coordinater, sucked out choke artist as a head coach.

Enjoy another season of January heartbreak.

34. I hate to say it and I'll cheer for them to do otherwise, but that's about right.
It's not just Philips. Garrett looks Dave Shula out there, calling high school plays in a pro game. Halfway through the year everyone has them figured out, and they don't know how to adjust. Plus, Philips has that "Give the ball to the defense and let them win" mentality. They have the talent easily, but their coaches are awful.
