When adults remember what it's like to be a kid...
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 08:05 AM by Javaman
I just got into work. We had an amazing rain, thunder and lightening storm early this morning.

I'm lucky enough to have huge windows on my floor over looking my city.

A tremendous rainbow was on display for all to view.

Thick, majestic and brilliant.

People flocked to my side of the building to have a view.

Everyone smiled. Smiled in that child-like way of wonder.

There are certain things, regardless of who we are, what we are and what we believe, that will always ignite that innocent sense of wonder in all of us.

Rainbows. :)

1. Lovely account, Javaman!
:hi:

I went to college in a mountain town; the campus was pretty high up and the cafeteria (the place was so small there was only one cafeteria, not one in each dorm) had a bank of windows overlooking the valley. It was quite lovely all year 'round, but the best times were when we had a thunderstorm pass through around dinner time. Then the setting sun would hit the raindrops just right, and a gorgeous rainbow would arc over the valley.

Even if you had your nose in a book or were deep in conversation with your friends about some collegiate drama going on, the minute you heard the "scraaaaape" of several chairs rocketing across the linoleum in unison, and saw people flocking to the windows, you knew there was a rainbow, and no one--I mean NO ONE--was cranky or cynical enough to resist getting up and gazing in awe at the scene.

Child-like wonder indeed. I'm glad you had such a pleasant start to your day. :hi:

2. I was old...
Paul wanted to go shopping one day. I told him it looked like rain and I didn't feel like taking the bus. He said it wouldn't rain and we'd be fine.

Of course as we're leaving the store it started to downpour. Buckets. I was so pissed at Paul for making me come out in the storm.

Then I realized that as a kid I loved the rain. I loved storms. I'd ride my bike in them just to feel part of the raw majesty. I picked up my bags and went dancing into the rain.

I never forgot again why I liked them.
