SNL Newcomer Won't Be Fired for Dropping the F-Bomb
In her debut appearance on the series, a skit costarring Kristin Wiig as a fellow biker chick, Slate, 27, let the F-word fly live on air. Since Slate's mistake aired after the prime time broadcast window, at 12:40 a.m., NBC and SNL are not expected to incur fines from the Federal Communications Commission.

1. Good.
That particular skit, it would've been hard NOT to slip up and say the 'real' word.

2. Fucking puritans
I have no problem with people swearing on television for god sakes! Where are this nations priorities? I don't give two shits about this and I can't fathom why anyone else does? Why not spend time and energy on something productive? We are holding fund raiser after fundraiser to buy school supplies, snacks, tissues, playground equipment, sport equipment for schools. That is what people should be upset about, thinking about and acting on. This is in the same category as the outrage over Janet Jackson's nipple and whether or not the ten fucking commandments should be kept in front of the court house. Madness!

5. Ah, but funding schools is Socialism, dontcha know?
;)

Or it is for every other child but their own. Then it's okay.

I think we should import British TV-shows directly to our prime-time, no editing, no censoring and no lame copying. Imagine how the puritans would react to The Graham Norton Show in primetime on say NBC

7. Never understood why
I can't watch the BBC in the states if I am willing to pay for it? How hard could it be? I have Satellite why not let me pay for what I want?

8. I get BBC-America on my Dish
and I know they "bleep" stuff for us. Not that I need "protecting" from their brand of humor, but I guess the FU-CC requires it

9. So do I but
I don't care to watch how fat am I or how clean is my house?
Rather watch reruns of ground force, time team or East Enders.

10. Well, I only watch it for Top Gear, Dr Who/Torchwood,
the occasional BBC News and sometimes Graham Norton, depending on who's on :)

I agree about all the other crap they put on. I guess they've seen the low-brow state of American television these days and are just trying to "fit in", to our detriment.

16. Unfortunately, much of the BBC's output in the UK is pretty dire.
The Beeb's public service broadcasting focus has been diluted over the years by successive governments, to the point where it now acts like any other commercial network. Executive performance is measured by ratings rather than quality, so the Beeb is forced to compete with Sky Television (Rupert Murdoch's satellite monopoly) for viewers. The slide into reality TV, soaps, gameshows and other mindless drivel was inevitable.

There's still good stuff on the BBC, but you have to look a lot harder to find it.

21. Settle for
Location location location, vicar of Dibley, men behaving badly and father ted reruns. Mystery, history shows and the transatlantic music sessions as well. Wouldn't mind sky sports (now I feel dirty)

15. It's funny how they bleep words that Americans find offensive...
...but leave in far worse Britishisms, presumably because they figure most Americans won't know what they mean. So Jeremy Clarkson gets bleeped for saying "cock," but "wanker," "minge" and "tosser" get through.

17. True, but how many Americans know what they mean?
I only know "wanker" of the ones you listed and I still don't get what "bloody" and "bugger" mean. Also, you can get away with some foreign cuss words since Americans (on the whole) don't speak any other language than "American" ;)

18. I do believe there was a cop show that used it some years back.
I can't say which one since I don't watch such shows, but it made the news for a while.

And then there was the episode of South Park that made fun of that instance of saying shit on primetime all of once, by seeing how many times they could say shit in one episode. It was well over a hundred, by the way

19. NYPD Blue
They used some foul language and brief nudity. They had a disclaimer that the show wasn't appropriate it for all audiences. I think most shows can do that, but most choose not to since it may "scare off" advertisers.

20. Our society is so weird.
Vulgar language can scare off advertisers, but the truly vulgar stuff (like anything out of Beck's mouth) takes almost an act of Congress before they even notice.

Thanks for the reminder on which show that was :)

22. Good point.
That's what I heard anyway, about the shows not wanting to push the button because they fear they will lose ad money.
