Not a SciFi fan, never have been, unless it has a Wookie in it.
But I have reading up about James Cameron Avatar.
Before they released that 15 minute preview in the cinemas, people were saying it's game changing, and it's going to be the biggest advancement to cinema, since adding sound and then adding colour.
People thought this will change cinema forever.
After the preview, most critics seemed disappointed and just though it visually stunning, but certainly wasn't going to change the face of cinema, and be game changing, although one reviewer was still hopeful that they will get it right for December.
So does anyone have any thoughts?
Personally I think it will have some breathtaking scenes, that will advance the genre, and have some stunning effects, but not to the level that they hope.

1. I don't know, but James Cameron has a habit of far exceeding expectations. |
|
I remember when he was filming Titanic all the reports were how titanic the budget was, how disappointed those involved were, and how it had turned into a monstrosity that could never recoup its expenses. It turned into the most financially, critically, popular, and awarded success in movie history.
I'd wait and see. He's done it before.

2. I hate the Internet phenomenon of people reviewing movies they haven't seen... |
|
...but I found the trailer rather intriguing. What is supposed to be the huge, game-changing advancement?

Your suppose to get the feeling that your actually in the movie, that yuor part of it, not just watching it, that is what he is going for.

3. Cameron's Titanic a good film but not great. |
|
Excellent production values but some of the story and characterizations were pretty lame.
Big scene: Leo teaching Kate how to spit. I mean, come on! But Kate showed her boobies, so I guess that made up for it.
And a lot of silent films still hold up to this day, so adding sound and color is no criteria for making a film good.
We'll see about Avatar.

7. I read about the technology used in Avatar months ago |
|
I wish I could find the article, but basically it's a revolutionized way of doing 3D. It has something to do with the motion mimicking the natural movement of the eye so that you don't experience the eye strain and headaches that many people get while watching 3D. Overall, it's suppose to make everything more realistic.
I've been looking forward to this movie since reading about this.

Im guessing I will come out of the theater, either in awe or massively disappointed, it wont be either way.

9. well, I'm a sucker for the current 3D technology... |
|
and it doesn't give me eye strain or headaches so, from the new tech perspective, I'm assuming I won't notice a big difference. However, the previews looked great in 2D so I think the movie will be worth the $$ regardless.
